Kobalt Wall Cabinet Install

I'm in the process of putting together my garage. This past weekend I purchased 4 of the Kobalt Wall Cabinets from Lowe's. The cabinets went together easy enough. However, I'm struggling with installing the rails that the cabinets sit on.

The instructions say to drill four 8.5 mm or 21/64th holes, (2 into each stud), and to place an expander into each hole. These are rather large holes to drill into a stud that measures roughly 1.5"????? Also, if Iwere to do this, the slots in the 30" rails don't line up with each stud (16" centers).

My question for those of you who have installed these cabinets: Do you think it would be safe to only use two of the supplied screws to hold up each cabinet rail? Or, if I go this route, should I use two lag bolts?

Thanks for your help!!

Sounds like you're looking at instructions for a hollow wall or drywall installation.

If going into studs, just use some lag screws.

Just did those same cabinets a few weeks ago, the mounting hardware it came with is junk. I went back and grabbed some lag bolts instead.. much more secure, throw those anchors away.

I had a few odd spots where I could only hit 1 stud due to the 30" rail and 16" centered studs, used a zip toggle(Lowes item #118084) to take care of that. 2 lag bolts holding the rail up seems very solid to me, i loaded the cabinets up and hung from them with all my weight with no issues.

Other than that I am very happy with the cabinets, they look great.

That's what I was looking for! What size lag bolts did you use?

Thanks

I think about 3 1/2" or 4", just grabbed something that had a big enough head to cover the mounting hole without that cheap washer that came with it out of the bulk bins.

Really can't understand why they would want you to drill into a stud and use an anchor instead of just a lag bolt for this instance.
