kobalt wrenches

Walking through Lowes last night and i saw 7 piece Kobalt wrenches $9.99. They looked pretty good for the price. Any thoughts or experience with them?

I got sets of Kobalt wrenches (sae and metric) and 3/8 deep sockets (sae and metric), and a 1/4 & 3/8 shallow set, all for about $80 plus tax on Father's Day weekend. I've been using the 1/4 sockets some, but haven't needed any of the rest yet.

Only drawback I see is they probably aren't made in the U.S.A. (If that matters to you or not-some people it does). I have used thier wrenches and sockets and they do the job quite well, and I believe they (Lowes) still have the "Lifetime Warranty" on them. Overall, that's not a bad deal.

No, they're no longer made in USA. Everything I saw last time I walked down their tool aisle was made in Taiwan. I picked up a few of their USA made combination wrenches when they went on clearance a couple of months ago.

When Kobalt 1st came out they were made by Williams (which is a division of Snap-on) I have a of their a ratchet with sockets that was purchased in the late 90's and they are outstanding. Later on they were made by Danisher but now, sad to say they are imported from Taiwan. From what I have seen then arn't bad for the price, pretty much like everything else.

I recently purchased a set of their new ratcheting wrenches. In less than a week the 1/2 just spun freely while the 5/8 locked up. I have to bang on it just to free it up and get it to work. I don't have time to go back and trade in for new ones. So I just gave the whole set away. Sad to see such a drop in quality. I have a older set of there 3/8 socket and ratchet which still gets the job done. From my recent experience I'm staying away from kobalt.

If you dont plan on using them heavily that is a good price regardless of the country of origin. Is kobalt a nice tool? no. But theyre fine for the homeowner which they are marketed to.
