Morning everyone
Just received a new 41 inch Kobalt tool chest from my GF.It's the stainless steel model, not the one with the radio,a step down from that. Anyone have one and how is it holding up for you?

I have the 29" wide stainless Kobalt and it's prefect for home use but was also used as a daily box in a mfg. setting and worked and held up fine there too. And it saw a lot of use.

I had to bring mine home as I had two co-workers take a pry bar to the top trying to break into it.
Rewelded lock bar and added security bolt on plates to fix the visual mess from the prying and it works as good as new.

Finding parts for it down the road is my only concern.

Enjoy it!

I have a lawncare biz and run Dixie Choppers so it will look nice next to all the stainless steel parked around it. :)

I've had the 41" (top & bottom) for probably around 7 years now and its held up great. It's crammed full, so I've been looking to add the 56" HF roller in the near future.

I have one. Had it at least 5 years. Its way overloaded and haven't had any problems with it. I have a couple minor complaints with it.

1. The drawer pulls have a plastic end caps that falls off and get lost.

2. The stainless is not austenetic stainless and it does rust some. Not alot but theres some discoloration on mine.

3. It's from Lowes. I personally hate all things about lowes. Their wood is terrible, their service ***** and their people are experts at everything but never actually installed a toilet or wired a light. When I got mine I had to return the top chest twice because the box had severe damage. They offered me 10% to keep a box that wouldn't even close and all they did was tape the thing back up and put it right back on the shelves after I returned it. Not only did I have to put up with this **** but the next guy did as well. I'm not talking about a ding here more like the whole side was caved in and they thought that was perfectly acceptable.

LOL.
I'm glad I;m not the only one with that problem. :)
I buy tool boxes to use so it does not bother me, but the caps are not available from Lowes AFAIK. And I tried.

There are various grades and thicknesses of Stainless available.
While the construction and gusseting is stout, the stainless itself is quite thin.

No racking or bowing problems for me but it certainly is a low to mid-range quality box.

As for teh B&E on my box, floor mgt. just looked the other way so it became a very complicated situation. No different than any other workplace full of thieves and goobers who think that anything goes.

Hell, in aother building several employees were stealing large alum. billets awaiting CNC millwork and taking them to the scrapyard for cash. They got caught yet did not loose thier jobs. Just a write-up and "a few weeks off unpaid" slap on the wrist.

It was the wild-west of mfg. facilities indeed.

I have the 41 inch top and bottom. They hold up well at home. I bolted the top and bottom together . The only pain in the **** is the keys must stay in the locks when opening. I used a # 49 drill bit in a dremel tool to make a key slot in the locks so the keys can be removed after unlocking.

I have the bigger one with the radio. Held up for one year of everyday shop use and now in my non climate controlled garage for 2. So packed full that the built in fridge holds tools in blow molded cases. Kind of a mini locker. It's been pretty solid.

Marry her.

Agreed, I regret not marrying a gal in the 1980s that gave me a Craftsman machinist bottom box. It sounds like you might be looking "a gift horse in the mouth" by even asking us about it. That's a no-no from the past. :)
