I have been eyeballing the ratchets and extentions with the grippy knurling. How do you guys like em? I have a cornwell ratchet that I love but I am a guy who gets his hands oily and it gets kinda slippery. Give me your opinions please. Thanks:D

I prefer the action of the Koken Zeal line of ratchets, but they don't come with knurling.

I have knurled wobble extensions in both 1/4" and 3/8", a 3/8" quick spinner t-handle, and a 1/2" breaker bar. The knurling is awesome, not sharp, but provides a strong grip when your hands are slippery.

i'll tell you in a week or so - my extensions are on the way :) very much hoping the knurling is as prominent as it looks in photos.

jk47 that was what I was wondering. It looks like the knurling has plenty of grip but did not know if it was too grippy to hurt your hands. What is it you do not like about the action. Does it compare to a cornwell ratchet?

I wouldn't say I don't like the action, it is a Proto clone. Which isn't a bad thing, but for a 24 tooth mechanism, I find the head large. Very smooth, but not quite on the cutting edge. How ever Koken does offer a 45 tooth round head ratchet with knurling. I haven't tried it out, I might order the swivel head version though.

BTW I have never tried a Cornwell ratchet

just received my extensions and my my, they sure are purty :)

in the few minutes i've handled them, the knurling seems perfect. in pics it looks like it might actually be sharp (think stipling on the backstrap of a custom gun), but it isn't at all. finish appears near perfect on all pieces.

i got mine from Level Chrome but Franks Tools prices seem about the same. I had never bought from either and Level Chrome got back to me first (although Franks wasn't far behind). It was a smooth transaction and Level Chrome was upfront about what was not in stock (the universal sockets) and how long it would take to get them. hopefully i'll have them in a couple of weeks.

the chrome doesn't have the luster and shine of nepros; its almost a semi-gloss appearance. not matte, but not real bright chrome. i'm not a chrome hound, so doesn't bother me at all. we'll see how they do when we start turning them...

Very nice extensions, I have the same in 3/8 & 1/2 drive on the way from Level Chrome who I have purchased from before, excellent service. Free shipping for International orders over $250US so it works out cheaper than buying them here in NZ. Seeing your pictures makes me want mine now lol.

i haven't done any actual work with them yet, just played around with them and a handful of sockets. sockets actually click into a locked position when pushed straight onto the extensions - they stay locked unless you pull the socket slightly away from the extension, at which point it is in the wobble position. most of my other wobble+ type extensions you have to maintain pressure to keep them in the locked mode. occasionally, that's annoying, so i think there will be times these will be much nicer. seem to positively engage the sockets and have a decent range of wobble.

that said, i've made an effort to avoid buying chrome stuff so i can use my impacts without fear of destroying tools. still, i think there are enough scenarios where i need the feel of a hand ratchet on an extension to justify these. same goes for the universals. chrome swivel/universals have a much larger range of articulation than impact swivels and that can be a big advantage, therefore justifying/rationalizing their purchase :)

i expect to be putting the extensions to use this weekend, so will try and post back with some details after actually using them with greasy hands :)
