I'm looking at getting some koken sockets in 1/4" or 3/8" full sets deep, semi and shallow to replace the powerbuilt ones I have in my work chest to make a home set. Having a look at the socket contact points thread the koken surface drive ones look good but I also have a metrinch socket set and the slop in them is f'ing annoying.

Does anyone have these? I what is the slop in them like? Am i better off getting the normal 6 points?

Cheers

From what I have read they have the same slop as the Metrinch Sockets. To me slop in the sockets is not as bad as slop in wrenches (Metrinch wrenches would be almost useless in many situations on today's cars) but preferably I would rather have no slop. Just a thought off the top of my head.

Interesting, do you know where you read this? In my searching on here if only found one person mention it.

I may just go for the 6pt

Seems like the koken surface drives would be the bees knees if you have to deal with very rusty cars often.

I read it here somewhere and coincidentally I do own a Metrinch set. If this was the greatest idea on the planet (which it isn't) why aren't all the major makers marketing this style of wrench? I am sure it's all about trade offs as an example Snap-on had Flank-Drive on their sockets and wrenches and after their patent ran out all kinds other manufacturers starting using the same system. It was a good idea.

Now Metrinch comes along with their great idea but like I have mentioned it has considerable slop in the system but it does do what it says it does. I don't see all the major manufactures jumping on the band wagon to make this style of wrench-socket system as I am sure the patent on this ran out years ago. So again, if this was really such a good idea everyone would be making them. BTW I have seen a copy of this style of wrench at HF for what it's worth don't know if they are still there though.
