Koken Thinwall Impact Sockets - set?

I recently noticed these thin-walled Koken Impact Sockets. Does anyone know if they are sold in a set?




Their size profile does appeal to me - and may justify their price.

For example, if you compare their 10mm's hex-end diameter to the Snap-On's chrome and impact options:

Snap-On 3/8" deep chrome socket: 14.3mm
Koken 3/8" deep thinwall impact: 14.8mm
Snap-On 3/8" deep impact socket: 15.9mm

They're pretty thin, almost chrome socket thinness. Their 3/8" deep impact sockets are also a bit longer than most, but for me that is an advantage from a tool clearance standpoint.

With that said, does anyone own a set?

You tend to find with KoKen, that if you want a “set” of something, just order the sockets you want, and ask the dealer to put them on a rail - result, a “set”.

You don’t make a saving this way, but you don’t generally make a huge saving with KoKen sets anyway. This is another way of saying that they don’t load the prices of the individual tools.

KoKen do offer some pre packaged sets of thin wall sockets - on a rail for regular and semi deep, in a case for deep, but I think only in 1/2” drive.


The KoKen impact sockets are superb - my “go to” in all honesty. I have both standard and some thin wall in popular sizes. I only use the latter when I have to, though they seem very durable.

Being sensible, I find that impact sockets are far more of a ”consumable” than regular sockets.

I did start with a “set” of KoKen (regular) but some sizes get beaten to death and others never used. Think I’m on my second or third 17mm.

If I was buying again I’d get two of those to start with.

I only ever bought individual deeps and thin walls, and only in popular sizes. My “impact” drawer looks like a right “dogs breakfast” - the OCD guys would have a fit, but it works for me.

I noticed this recently when I looked at the set of the Koken nut grip swivel sockets. I figured I'd probably only use the 8, 10, 12 mm, at most, but I roughly added up the cost of them individually, and there really wasn't any savings to buy the set vs buying them individually. I ended up just getting the 10mm as a start, and figured I could get a few more later if necessary.
