Most people willing to buy it all at once are probably looking to sell it piece by piece, so they aren’t going to offer you what it’s actually worth.

If you were to sell it piece by piece you could probably get 50% of retail on the quality stuff. The box itself I’ve seen sell for about a grand to the right buyer if it’s in great condition, but yours looks a little less then great. No offense.

Most mechanics already have a box and tools, and a newbie probably wouldn’t be able to afford to buy a snap on box full of tools.

Sorry to hear about your dad! As mentioned, I might be interested in buying it and filling in some gaps in my tool chest as well as selling the rest of the pieces. I am in SE Michigan and if you are interested feel free to reach out and we can work on a price. I am a hobbyist mostly. But can't let good tools pass on!

All the best to you!

You'd do better selling some of the wrench and socket sets individually. Looks like you have alot of fairly complete sets. Metric will do better (pricewise) than SAE. Box by itself probably around $1000 +/- (at least in area where I'm located). All together as a package I wouldn't get my hopes up on more than say $2,500 unless you happen to find the right buyer who needs everything you have. Could probably double that breaking it up. BTW I'm assuming most of the wrenches and sockets are Snap-on.

Sorry about your dad. The KRL1000 is one of SO's best boxes and small enough that it'll also appeal to DIY'ers. If it cleans up nicely and the drawers operate smoothly, I'd estimate $1000 + or - assuming the casters aren't missing. I didn't see a lot of value in those tools, maybe $500-$1000. Price are regional but you'll do best selling the SO tools as complete sets on Ebay. Are you sure you don't want to keep your dad's box?

I bet that box would clean up really nice with a couple hours of detail work. I didn't see any dents or rough drawer guards. Paint loss is pretty minimal and easily touched up. I bet it's just dirty and smudged up with greasy hands. The ball bearing slides will likely need lubricant but I doubt they're worn out. I don't see much drawer sag. The inside of the drawers look really good and some even lined. The big issue will be the missing casters. I hope they're not missing because they'll cost a fortune to replace and that's a very heavy box.

No room for the box plus my mom is in memory care and any money made from sales will help her monthly fee's.
Thank you for your reply

I’ve said before, it doesn’t make much sense to me for someone to go to a forum where people brag how cheap they got stuff to ask for an estimate of value. Research eBay, Craigslist, etc. Find a reputable auctioneer. Asking here isn’t really going to help you.

I live in SW Michigan as well, currently Paw Paw but grew up in Stevensville. I would say the box itself would go for 700-1000, tools you would be better off piecemealing and listing on ebay. piecemealing it out is your best option in my opinion. Sold as a lot box/tools and all I don't see it going for more than $2000.

That's silly. I bet there's negligible sold listing for KRL1000's on Ebay and CL never shows "sold" prices. (asking prices are meaningless.) An auctioneer might not be enthused about appraising this one box. (they'll also take a hefty cut).

I don't see a single comment on this thread where GJ members are bragging how cheap they got a similar box. I think the OP is getting some valuable "no ****" advice from this forum.

That's not a KRL1000, it's a KR1000.

If it was a KRL, it would be a KRL1001.

I know that sounds nitpicky, but it isn't meant to be. I just think there's a world of difference between the KR series and the KRL series. Just wanted to point that out for someone comparing values.:)

I’ve seen empty KR1000 boxes go from $800-2k depending on condition. Given that yours is missing the casters and is in what appears to be decent condition otherwise, I think 2k for everything is a fair deal.

BTW I'd be interested in some of those sets if you decide to part it out. Good luck with sale.

Asking prices are a reflection of what other people who have bought the same or similar item feel they would accept from a buyer, which is usually a discount from actual value that, using this instance, a Snap-on dealer would ask. Also, hefty cut or not, I have seen many items bring within ten per cent of new at an auction. No one said there was a comment about what they paid for a similar box, but if you spend any time here at all, you know that acquiring tools cheap is a recurrent theme in the discussions. There is even a name for the award of acclimation: You ****.
