Kr5570?

There's a SO tool chest for sale locally, and the guy says it's a KR5570. Google isn't helping me out here. Do you think theguy is missing digit or something or is this a discontinued model?

Probably KR557. Is it about 18"deep , 33" wide and 38" tall??

somewhere around the early 90's IIRC. what you thought was a 0 after the 557 could be a D or a G, that will help with dating it. that cat page is from a 92 catalog.

I didn't realize SO sold friction slides as late as '92. I guess I assumed they went straight to ball bearings in '88 or so.

that box never had BB slides. there was a similar version that had them. this was such a popular combo they sold them side by side for a number of years.


the similar box was slightly larger and had a full width drop front.

Thanks for the info. I used that box briefly (it belonged to someone else) at one of my former jobs. It certainly is unique with the narrow bank of drawers.

I have a KR657A, pretty much same box, except mine has BB slides. How much is he trying to get for it??

He's asking $250. It was repainted, from the pictures it looks decent. he said it has a couple of scratches and dings, but I can live with that.

However, are the drawers on this box not ball bearing? If so, how would the quality of the friction slides compare to that of a new Craftsman box? For $250, is it worth it?

Where's the pics??? Price doesn't sound bad if it's in decent shape. The older snap on friction slides work quite well if they are clean.

I've got one I used as a primary box for work for about 15 yrs.Never had any issues with the slides.Keep them cleaned and lubed every few years and they work great.Slides are still available from Snap on.

This picture is the one on craigslist and it doesn't really do much. It looks like they put the emblem on the opposite side when it was repainted. I'll see if he can send me more pics.

I'd go look at it, if it's in good shape offer him $200. If it really is in good shape though and I was in need of a box I wouldn't have any problem paying the $250. I picked up my KR657A over the summer for $425.

I bought one new in I believe 1985,and my dealer said it was the first time that model came with BB slides,but only on the deep bottom drawer.Rest of the slides were friction.

If it's older than that,I believe they came with welded-in drawer dividers,which I liked.

Years later I traded it in on my SO box with BB slides,and unless the tool are super light,or the drawers really small,I couldn't go back to friction slide drawers now.

To me,the older boxes like that seemed better built,but the paint was thin and chipped real easy.I think they used laquer,is the reason why.
