Came aross a guy selling Kraftzeug branded 8 drawer service carts, with a "quality" German 251 piece tool set where the foam trays are branded Atik, for only $800 delivered to your door.

This is the marketplace post. Posted by the very trustworthy name of John Smith. Says he lives in Utah and works for igmtools.de on his otherwise empty profile.

I have a hard time discerning where the scam is as they claim no money upfront, just pay when it's delivered. I'm highly tempted to try and buy one for shigs and grins. If for no other reason than to suss out what in the world the sideways drawer would be for. I'm a few states away though, so anyone in the East Texas/Oklahoma area that's feeling tool-curious?

The box looks neat. As for the vertical drawer I think it’s a great idea for prybar and sledgehammers and such. I’ve been thinking about upper cabinets for the lista bench in my picture. A slight issue is it’s an odd width so store bought cabinets leave an odd open width. I had been considering a vertical storage solution for all my pullers to fill that gap.

Their offerings look like the German version of Sonic tools or visa versa

Might not mean a thing, but I have NEVER heard of that brand. I highly doubt there is anything ‘German’, let alone ‘made in Germany’ in it. You can buy this style carts/tools/foam inlays in bulk from different ’OEM’ on alibaba.

I smell ‘chinesium’. ;)

Then: The OP has one post prior to this from 2016 about a 10k workshop-content purchase/ garage buy out and now this. If this is a legit question, no problem really. But my guess is: ‘hacked’ account just to spread the link(s).

Again, to the OP, if you’re just having a legit question, I really mean no harm! This is not necessarily a ‘scam’ per se, just an ultra cheap tool box and tools pretending to be something they are quite surely not.

Definitely not comparable to Sonic, and not a German competitor of Sonic.

Kind regards,
Olli

Same photos have been used in an ad for the same thing for a very long time in my (NYC) area too--with a company truck from New Hampshire in the background. Figured it was a scam and moved on.

The thing that would give me pause is that while there is a US website there is no German website that I can find. Pics on the site look very similar to pics posted here. Probably best to stick to known German brands if that's your thing.

Another thing is the word itself doesn't really mean anything. It's a bastardization of Kraftfahrzeug which means "motor car" or "motor vehicle". Kraftzeug essentially means "vehicle". So again another reason to be suspicious.

Kind of odd that the OP has made 2 post in 8 years, and this is what brought him out of hiding
I checked that post out and would love to know what happened; did he buy the shop? Paging @Doctor Jelly

The product in the OP's original post is no longer listed on FB. I send people on FB a message asking something about the product. If their response sounds legit, then I go check it out. If they tell me to call a number or send money, I'm out.

They may be completely legit but the tools are not likely German. They are likely Chinese masquerading as German. That deceptiveness alone out to be enough to convince you to stay away. Dealing with people who are ethically compromised is usually a losing proposition.

Or TOFTT and let us know.:) I just know there are no free rides in life, and if something sounds TGTBT then it likely is.

"Scam"? As in they will simply take your money and you'll not get anything? I don't think so. I do think you'll (eventually) get a bunch of crummy tools in a crummy little box. Pay when delivered? I imagine a hefty freight tab too.
Another's link above seems to have sleuthed out the source @ Alibaba. Anyone may order a sample for $200(+frt) and see for themselves. Let is know how it goes;)

I ordered a nearly $200 item off of AliExpress and the transaction went great

You’re only speculating on the quality of those products with no knowledge whatsoever. Most of us have been around long enough to know that the Chinese have discovered that they can make pretty good quality products for just a little bit more money than junk.

The shipping is probably subsidized by the US Postal Service at least till it gets in country and then the freight is what it is as if they ordered from Amazon
I am speculating, hence the "I think". This doesn't look like something the USPS would touch.

I took a closer look on my puter and not the phone. First off that box is only 30x33x19. Which means those drawers are mostly likely 17” deep at best. Looking at the pictures it looks lightweight and some real cheesy attributes to the construction

Then there’s the tools. They all have that crapshoot $02 finish with crazing over all of it.

I’m sure it’s a complete kit as advertised but I’m certain it’s not anything with a level of quality.

There is a website that looks legit: https://kraftzeugermany.com/. The box with tools is $1500, down from $2400.

I thought this was interesting:
kraft site.jpg
This is from the description of one of the boxes. I was looking for COO info and found none (but, see below).

The contact email is a gmail account, which is a yellow flag.

Here's another interesting image:

Note the placeholder text on the menu at right. The "blog" states the tools are German-made. I think that a real German tools site would have better editing.
