These have been around for a while. They work well, Kreg is big in the pocket hole world. If you ever used to watch Norm Abram he used pocket holes all the time, except he cut them on a benchtop machine made by Porter Cable.

No personal experience, but have sold them to customers. If they didn't work well my customers certainly would be back bitching about them. Haven't heard a peep.

Nice I may have to buy one. I really wanted to try building a book shelf and I think this would work great. Do you really need to use the screws they sell?

They are amazing and work great. Well worth the money. Yes you must use the special drill bit and the kreg screws. Unless there is a source that makes the same screw but I have never found one. Also the screws have to be the right length and type for the type of wood you are using and the jig and drill bit stop need to be set for right wood thickness.

I was really looking hard at the Kreg kit then I found the HF version which is well reviewed and half the price even before a coupon. I was actually on the way here today to post about it compared to the Kreg, and you beat me to it.

Anyone who owns either, can you compare them? The Kreg kit comes with more, and I especially like the dust port, but I don't think it's 'twice the price' better. Anyone used the HF one to comment on it? I only saw it in the store the other week and had to stare at it for several minutes and pulled up the Kreg on my phone to compare because I was sure it was too good to be true. It looks solid in the store. I had not seen it in the store until this weekend.

I have the Kreg Jr kit, about $40 from Amazon, and it has worked out great so far.

If I ever have problems it's due to MY poor placement of the jig so the pilot hole goes too deep but the more I use the jig the better my projects turn out.

I just noticed the link to the HF version posted by cheeci, that looks good with the integrated clamp. I've not seen one of those at the local store. I'll have to ask about one next time I'm loafing at HF.

Some Lowes' stores stock the Kreg-branded screws.

The Kreg jig changed the way I work with wood. I became a much better cabinet builder and everything I built with the kreg jig is solid and looks like a pro built it.

In fact I go so good that I needed better tools to take on more complex projects. I was soon experimenting with new projects that pushed my skill level. Now I use the kreg jig less and less as I have moved on but I would not be where I am skill wise without the start that the kreg jig gave me.

Now just don't ask me how much changing over to Festool changed my wood working skills. There just aren't enough words to describe the difference that made.

If you are making cabinets, face frames and such the kreg jig is a great tool. It has a bunch of other uses but that is what I use it for mainly.

I have had a couple of Kreg jogs for many years, and have used them extensively. The bits are still sharp and work well, and the joints are nice and tight.
Never, never use tapered head screws like sheetrock screws with them though, because they will split the wood from the internal expansion as it tightens against the bottom of the hole.
