Never used a krag jig before. 2x5 railings flat into 6x6 posts. Less than 100 holes. Looking at the Kreg 320 with their 2 1/2" #10 SS screws. Thinking 2 each end of both bottom and top rail.

I think I could go to 3 screws, and believe there is a #14 that works but not sure.

Thought Thanks.

That should work. I've used the Kreg jig to put pocket screws under the joint of roof deck as blocking, post construction. 2x4 you can easily do 2 or 3 pocket screws.

I would personally do 2 screws since you have such wide rails. I'm sure 2 screws can hold the 200 lb horizontal load rails need according to the building code, but 3 is better and will add more strength down the road as wood weathers, shrinks, etc.

Just make sure you have a good drill because sometimes the bit encounters a tough grain pattern and tends to bog down.

A jig or hold down will also be nice to have.

Thanks. It is no. 1 KDAT wood, so should be easier to drill that plain PT wood.
