KRL 1022 too tall?

I know that I am probably in the minority that thinks a KRL 1022 is too tall, but I am 5'5" and find it too high, especially to work on top of. Anyways I just wanted to share my solution. Apparently the caster top plate size is quite uncommon, being 5x5.5". I contacted Colson Casters and they found 4" phenolic wheel with 5x5.5" top plate. So I ordered x4 swivel casters (2 with a brake), due to the way my bay at work is configured, the 4 swivel casters make it extremely easy to move the box in and out, (the once or twice a year the shop does a complete cleaning) otherwise the box never moves. I know that I am sacrificing a lot of load capacity but my box won't get much heavier aside from maybe a riser. I am very happy with how it turned out, puts the work surface at 44.5". It kind of looks funny with the small wheels, but still rolls smooth.

On a side note, is there a market for these huge snap on casters?

I'd have a bigger problem with the depth than the height, I'm 5'9 and can't reach the back of the top drawers of a 30" deep box from the front.

How much do you want for the old castors? I'm interested. Your new castors look good as well.

I have no idea what to ask for them, I know they are something stupid ridiculous from snap on, toss me a fair offer I guess.

These days ~45" is about average for non heavy, standing bench work. I'm only a few inches over you and find ~43"+/- to be about perfect for a bottom only box. ~40" for a universal bench and ~36" heavy pounding.

Must be I'm the only one that found this ironic. Just saying. ;)

BTW, another solution to consider is make a saddle frame for the box. That way you could still have used the larger wheel which always makes it easier to roll and drop the box maybe an inch off the floor. But like you said, it only needs to move every once in a while.

Anyhow good info and very nice box!.

zk, 42" is the AIA architectural std for writing counters and stand up counters like high top bar tables.

Most work benches should be around 36" -38" and most kitchen counters are 33" to 36".

Anthing above 42" for a work surface is not ideal using current human factors means and avg human size statistics.

Also the stainless top adds some awkward height for us shorter people. A simple sheet cut to fit would be a nice option.

I'm 5'8".
Never thought of it as an issue. But if i needed it to be a little eaier, i would do a step style setup with anti fatiuge foam mats. Mite be comfy to.

But to the casters, people buy them, to put on listas, vidmars, upgrades on other boxes.
