So i just got a used KRL1022CPBO for $2000. It is only a couple years old-anyone know where the date code is? The brake on the casters is very hard to lock and disengage. I had to use pliers to pull the brake lever up. Is this normal?

No its not normal there is no adjustment for the brake either i've had two sets of brake/swivel casters replaced under warranty for this reason. I only lock one wheel until it quits working then use the other one until it gets to not working right and order a new set.

That's normal for me. I've got a KRL1056 and I've always used duckbill pliers to engage/disengage the brakes.

Well I wasn't happy with the difficulty of disengaging the brake. They loosened up to an acceptable level when i sprayed them with liquid wrench and worked them back and forth with pliers.

I'm eventually gonna switch all my casters over to Colson Performa Rubber with the tread lock brakes:

The date stamp should be on the top right corner of the box as you're looking at it from the back.

I have had 3 snap on boxes and all 3 have had brakes that are very hard to release. I now have a foot brake that works awesome. Snap On sells one and it was good quality but very expensive. That was years ago. The one they sell now is very expensive but the quality *****. I went to my local caster store and bought mine there. The price was excellent and the quality is better than Snap On's junk they are trying to sell now. If you move your box around a lot like I do, You would love the foot brake.

All the newer SO boxes in my shop have a white sticker on the back of the box with the serial number and date, etc. if you didn't immediately see it someone probly removed it. sticks out like a sore thumb. whatever happened to the nice metal plates everyone riveted on with the info?? Either way, shouldn't casters be under warranty? Isn't that part of why they cost so much from the truck?

The caster brakes on my KRL is very stiff as well. If I engage the brakes even moderately, I'll need pliers/adjustable wrench to release it. I'd say it's normal. I move my box maybe once a year so it doesn't bother me at all.

I will look for a stamp today. The sticker is there I just don't know how the serial number translates to the year it was made.
