what ever you do make sure the box is owned by the guy and not a guy trying to sell a box he still owes money on

I have a 722 and love it. As long as you have space, you won't find it too big. I bought it then after a few years I bought a kra 4114/4107 to match.

The dirty little secret with truck boxes, nobody pays list. Wait for the deal to come to you and you can get them pretty cheap. Sounds like your deal is here.

My dealer had new 722 boxes at $2660 last summer. I think that they can be had fairly regularly at this price.

- is this common to see a brand new KRL offered for less than 50% by a SO dealer? If the box is good, surely there will be someone who'd be willing to pay the full price?

Yes.....deals come around from time to time. I've got 2 KRL's in my garage right now which I got for CHEEEP money brand new off the SO Truck, one is a 722 the other a 1056.

- I know it's GJ but did anyone downgrade from 722 because it was too big for their needs?

LOL...thats the funniest thing I've heard all day :lol_hitti ...as mentioned above, I've got a shiny new 722 I bought last October...I havent put a single tool in it yet because I think its too small...

I just paid $2700 for mine, brand new and on the pallet... not even a truck demo. They ran a deal for a week or 2 last month for right around $3k, which is how I got mine. Not only does next to no one pay list, some of us don't even pay the sale price! :D

Is it sitting on the truck or what? He might have ordered it during that sale and someone fell through, or ordered an extra and wants it gone quick.

I was going to wait for a used one to save a few hundo more, but the ability to finance half the price with no interest swayed me.

I have the 722 at home. It's pretty well full now. Like most, I paid well under $3k for it from the dealer, brand new. Very happy with it.

I think the KRL722 makes for a very nice home box also. Like "Jeeper" I have a KRL722 next to my other box, a 2000 Series. I am considering replacing both of those set ups for just one box, a KRL1023.

These come up a lot around me. Can snag them in brand new condition for usually 1800 to 2000. I still have one at my house, have sold one to make room for a KRL 1022 and a KRL 1033 i picked up lightly used. Looking for another 1022 and I will sell the remaining 722 I have.

When I was seriously considering buying one (a 1022), I found that I could get one off of the truck for less than the local guys were asking for them - used.

If it eases your mind, i've got my 7022 and side cabinet at home now. It takes up some floor space, but it holds a lot, and gives a nice work area on top of it.

1022 with stainless top go for about $2700 around here. 1033 with side locker hutch and stainless top I paid $4000 for. Love the extra wide top drawers on them.

IMHO, this is the true dirty little secret...I dont know why anybody would look on CL for boxes. Be it MAC or SO...all the deals on boxes are on the truck. This applies for me on new AND used boxes..Cheaper AND liftgate service.

Lots of people don't have a SO truck servicing them. Lots more don't have the relationship to get such a price, and some lack the patience... truth be told, even with a stack of 100s, you can't necessarily walk onto a truck and get 50%+ off any old time on whatever box you want. Want a locker, hutch or a stainless top? Sure you can swing a deal with a driver if you're buying a new box, but especially the top adds a fraction of new price to the value of a used box. That SS top you'd probably still pay $400 for might add $200 to a used box. Not to mention anyone can ask anything on CL, but what they'll take is another matter. I've seen tons of $3500 KRL722s on CL, and laughed at a few who refused to negotiate... but what a motivated seller who wants the money and/or space will accept is another matter.

When buying a new box off the truck, you need to wait for the deal to come to you. A good dealer relation helps, but if he knows what you want, give him time and he can often work magic when a deal comes his way. Just walking on a truck and saying a I want this new box today, you more then likely are not going to get a you **** deal.

Also have to keep in mind that used deals are out there, but they tend to go quick. I've seen good 722s for $1800, and 1022s go for a little over $2000, and they're sold by the time I find them. The ones you see the most are the idiots and dreamers... they're not hard to find over and over again, because they never sell. ;)
