KRL722 Restoration

I just started restoring a Snap On KRL722 box that was damaged. I will need to buy some drawer slides, out of pocket. Is Snap-On the only outlet for these? I know they were made by AccuRide at one point but the ones on this box are stamped Snap-On. I also looked at the slides on an older KRL box, and they would fit but it is obvious that they are from a different manufacturer.

If Snap-On is the only option, are there any kind souls out there who have some extra 21.5" slides kicking around?

I am also looking for some Lock 'N Roll latches, in any length, and some drawer trims. If any of you replaced the trim with a different color I would be interested to acquire the old trim.

Any help is welcome. Thanks a lot!

SnapOn just sent me warranty slides for an older KRL box and a KR box. Accuride is I believe one of their main vendors for slides, but there probably have been others. I did add a bit of lubriplate grease to the ball bearings, installed and I should be good to go for another 25 years

I understand that threads without pictures don’t get a lot of interest. So here are some.

I do also have a question about the Snap On stainless tops. The one I have got wet and the mdf inside swelled (hard to fight fire without water). Is the stainless glued to the mdf? I figured replacing the wood would be easy but I couldn’t get it apart. Any ideas?

to get the MDF off the SS top how about soaking it in water for a couple of days. it should loosen up and then you might be able to take a scraper to whats left.

This is the latest with the box. It is coming along. Doing this in my free time things don’t move very fast but it hasn’t been as much work as I thought it would be. Just have a couple more drawers to fix up.

I’m still looking for some drawer trim if someone decided to change colors. I’m open to any color that doesn’t clash too badly with the red. Please PM me if you have any.

I redid the side trim in stainless since the original was badly damaged.

Is that the correct red? PPG Ditzler #73504 ?

I actually laughed out loud when I read this! What do you think this is, a matching number Corvette?

Awesome job, looks great! What did you end up doing with the top? Was anything warped from the fire?

I'm curious how the fire started. Was it in a burnt down shop or was he storing acetone soaked rags in it?

I ended up prying the MDF out of the stainless top with some skinny L shape prybars. It’s like they glued the stainless to the MDF with some PL glue. It eventually popped with no damage to the stainless so I just cut new MDF to go inside.

The right side of the box has a little wave in it, I’ll call it “character”. Between the off color and a few other differences it is clear the box has a story. It will never be perfect. If someone notices I’ll just show them the original picture.

Hey guys, reviving my old thread here. I forgot to post an update. Here are some pictures. It will never be perfect, there is some warpage from the heat of the fire but it is fully functional and it was a fun project to restore it. IMG_4632.JPGIMG_4633.JPG
