Kroil experience

Was replacing spark plugs in our Hyundai today and when I started to remove the #1 my unco-operative bolt radar went off. Sprayed a little Kroil down into the spark plug hole (just a small amount) and went back to my shed for a few minutes to retrieve some tools.

Came back about 10 mins later and tried again. Plug came out no sweat......

Anyways, took a look at the plug and I could tell that the Kroil had creeped its way all the way down to the electrode. Impressive!

It's good stuff, and the smell is legendary. If Kroil and PB Blaster can't get it done, it's time for a sledge and gas axe.

Yea kroil is amazing. I had a few times I was trying to get a part off and I or someone else hit it with kroil and it fell right off like magic.

Hijacking the thread now. Does anyone know the difference between aerokroil and kroil? we have aerokroil at work and idk why.

Aerokroil and Kroil are the same thing....

I think the aero thing just means it's Kroil in an aerosol can.

Judging by there website I'm guessing the Aerokroil comes in an aerosol can and the Kroil comes in a regular liquid form to be poured out of it's container. Look at the picture and the names on the cans.

I was turned on to Aero-Kroil a few years ago by an old dude. I will never go back! The stuff is God-like.


I am not sure if they make it anymore but I used to religiously use CRC's 5-56. I still have a can from when I was in high school. Funny how a smell can take you back 20 years.

I still use WD-40 every now ans again but not that much. PB Blaster is pretty good but I still grab for the Orange and Black can as my "go-to".


I guess the 556 is called Power Lube now.

I find mine at Tacoma Screw which is a large Nut/Bolt/Tool store franchise. Many places carry it though.

Another phenominal penetrant is the MOPAR rust penetrant. Before I learned about kroil, it was my most effective penetrant. It's a near equal to kroil, and easier to get in a pinch. Both are leagues better than PBlaster in my opinion.

I love the stuff. Helped me tear apart a really old Delta drill press. Sprayed a squirt on every nut and bolt, let it sit for five minutes, and tore it apart with minimal effort. Heck, most of 'em needed just an initial ratchet turn and came out by hand the rest of the way.

Use it on all my vehicles too, as well as rust prevention on impact sockets and anything else black oxide. Pricey, but worth every penny. Haven't touch PB or WD since I discovered it.

+1 for Aerokroil. It's my #1 choice for any stuck fastener. I love how you can use it so sparingly and it's still highly effective.

I use Kroil for 2 reasons...

1) It works

2) The smell really pisses off my co-worker

I only use is on really bad fasteners because it is hard to find in my area and PB is everywhere.

It's power steering fluid/acetone not brake fluid or atf. It's cheap, available pretty much anywhere, and works well.

I find it interesting that the Kroil fanboys are mostly comparing it to WD and PB. Better than **** don't equal good

I recently ordered from this same link. Took a while to receive the package, I figured the link was old and the deal was over. It eventually arrived and I am very happy to have found the stuff. So far it seems to work better than any other penetrating oil I have tried. I try to save it for the really tough stuff. I'll try WD, or PB Blaster first or if I think they will work, then go for the AreoKroil if I need too.

GM Rust Penetrant and heat valve lubricant is about the same .

Oh yeah. Kroil and PB Blaster are the cat's meow. CRC 5-56 used to just as good, and smelled just like the aforementioned products. But it hasn't been the same since it was reformulated in the early 90's.

It works great...a buddy of mine who worked in a machine shop told me about it. Ordered 2 cans of it. I want to try some of their other products too, Silikroil and Floway.
