If this is an engine in running condition and you plan to continue to use it, I'd suggest GM Top Engine cleaner. It will remove the carbon and do no damage to the engine.

Never tried Kroil but I've used Seafoam to remove carbon deposits on intake runners to good effect. The GM dealerships have a good cleaner too that might soften up hard carbon deposits, ACDelco X66P.

I would put a thinner hydraulic fluid in there. Hyd fluid like ****** fluid is pretty much all detergant. I keep a half full bucket to soak rusty parts I'm using over. Also when I do headgasket jobs, mostly 4 cylinder kubota diesels, I fill each cylinder and let it soak while the head is out for service. It pulls pretty much all the carbon off in a couple days. I'm not saying kroil woundn't work, but I think it would get pretty spendy quick.

Seems like any hi ph lubricant would work. Detergent oils are higher in ph than the norm.

I'll have to check the ph of Kroil. You got me wondering now.
