Kroil - What Container Do You Keep It In?

A friend gave me a gallon can 2/3 full of Kroil that I've been trying to find a suitable container for ever since he gifted me the can a few years ago.

First, I tried dispensing it in a brass Eagle oil can. The Kroil seems to react with the metal after sitting for several months. I'm still not sure if I'm imagining it, but the check valve in the pump mechanism gets stuck. As I say, I can't be sure, but it seems to sort of react with the brass or other metal.

Second, I tried a 4 oz. plastic bottle with stainless needle tip. I thought that might be a winner, however, after a month, the bottle seems to have shrunk and the exterior of the plastic feels sticky. The Kroil is reacting to the plastic. It's probably not helped by the fact that it sits in my garage. Here in Arizona, garage temps probably exceed 140F on hot days with a hot car inside.

What have you tried and what has worked for you?

I picked up a partial can of it at auction it looked like it was probably 60 years old.

I keep some of it in a metal eagle pump oiler, I don't know it's age but it's neither real old or real new.

Seems to work fine but now I have to thoroughly inspect it to see if there's problems. :)

I have a squirt bottle with some in it and a smaller bottle with a spout that pulls out for decent accuracy.

Attached below is what I use. My parents have a long arm quilter so they have a few of these bottles.. . .actually I need to make sure they save them.

EDIT: I uploaded the wrong picture, I believe this is the correct one now.

Sure Shot Model C once I get the leak worked out. If I can’t then in a atomizer.

straightcut :: Did you try to contact the manufacturer?

To ask them what they recommend? They'll probably suggest like the above - buy another 8 oz can to use that. That or they'll say my partial gallon is expired and to recycle it and buy another!

I sent an Email to Kano with a reference to this thread. I'm curious as to what they have to say.

Below is Kano's response. Hope this helps you out. Kano was pretty quick about it. About 1-1/2 hours.

Paul,

Thank you for contacting us. Our product is petroleum based. So if it is put in any container that has rubber or plastic rings, it will eventually erode them. The same goes for the plastic container. The only plastic our product can be stored in safely is HDPE, which is High-density polyethylene. We suggest that if you put the product in an unsafe container to apply it that you not store it. Once you are finished with your application, return it to the steel container it was shipped in. I hope this helps!

You guys are great! There are a lot of good ideas here. NUTTSGT, I've got to have a Zoom Spout - even just for light machine oil. I stopped at a Bernina store this morning, but they had nothing quite like that. There are many options on eBay that all seem to have different private labels, but appears to be a similar/same type of oil.

PFSard, thank you for that additional legwork! Thank you for getting the "right" answer, especially being Kroil doesn't seem to necessarily "play well" with (the wrong) plastic and certain metals.
