KTC vs KTC Nepros
What is the difference? Nicer finish? durability? quality?
I was pricing out a set of extra long flat box end nepros. Looks great, comes with a little plastic case. Contains 6 wrenches. $257.00 lifetime warranty.

KTC extralong flat box ends. 6 wrenches. I don't think it comes with any case. No warranty that I can tell. Finish looks ok, not very good pics. $99.00

Anyone know any major differences between the two. Yes life time warranty and a case are nice things to have. But not $158.00 nice. Finish I don't really care much about. Am I just paying for a nepros name, or is there something really here?

the mirror polish finish is the major material difference from plain-jane KTC wrenches.

FWIW I have a few KTC combo wrenches and I quite like the rougher finish.

I've used them with some frequency and have not been disappointed. They're at least as strong as the missing Craftsman RPs they replaced.

yeah I been searching the about us portions of the KTC websites and nepros and what not. I get a lot of best of the best on the nepros without much information of why they are better than their KTC line. I see things like “N-PowerFit Shape” which I will need to research what that is. But I'm thinking the nepros have a different steel used. I can't find what the regular KTC is made of. But nepros is 5GQ steel. Here are links to pics of both

Honestly with all my searching and asking 2 engineers, I can't find what is so special with 5GQ steel. If anyone knows please enlighten me. Otherwise KTC for 99.00 wins all the way

The steel is different.
The heat treating is different.
The machining is different.
The tolerance specification is different.
The handling is different.
The finish is different.
The chrome is different.

What else do you want to know? Is knowing the exact specifications of their 5GQ steel going to help? Almost nobody would know what steel is better or what advantages it has from looking at the alloy list.

Unless it's for specialist items such as extremely short sockets, certain bent wrenches or something else then just get the normal KTC. I have KTC, Nepros, Koken and Koken ZEAL tools. The Nepros and ZEAL are not worth the price over normal KTC and Koken.

That actually puts it more into perspective for me
So I will have to consider this purchase now.

Go bling and be afraid to lean on them or possibly abuse them in a git-r-dun situation. Never loan them.

Go base model and beat them like a rented mule without much thought. Nobody asks to borrow them.

This is my own expereience. My bling sets at home now as I beat up good imports without mercy.

And nobody really notices nor cares what I used. They care it was done right.

I ended up getting both on a few things. But I would suggest the cheaper first to see if they make the big difference in use.
One of my bling buys didn't and it was haed to resell without a huge loss. Took a long time.

I use my Nepros constantly and yeah, I was bummed the first time I dropped a beautiful 3/8" 90T ratchet...but that's what they are made for--functional works of art.
