Back in 2008, I had Genie chain drives installed in my garage. Here lately, one of the openers stopped working. The Safe-T-Beam green sensor wasn't lit, and the red one just blinked non-stop. Online, replacements are around $30. So to make sure it was the sensor, I called up Genie and they walked me thru a few diagnostics, on the phone, in the garage. They confirmed my problem (bad sensor), and then told me that they would send me a replacement without charge. As in, free. Considering that they're only warranted for one year, I have to say that's pretty darn nice. Add to that, they didn't treat me like an idiot, or simply refer me to a professional installer, spoke clearly (that is to say, not outsourced), and generally treated me like a real human and valued customer. So, they get one of these from me:

I concur. Purchased a new XCelerator screw-drive unit about 2 years ago. Great opener - DC drive, so it starts slow and stops slow. Really does crank the door open. It's so fast, I can push the open button and walk at a normal pace to the front of the garage and the door is fully open by the time I get there. With the previous unit, I'd have to duck down a couple of feet.

Within about 6 months of ownership, it started acting up one day. Would open, but refused to close. Called Genie tech support and they stepped me thru the process of testing this and that. Finally came down to the down limit switch, which they shipped to me at zero cost. Very informed tech on the end of the line - here in the US of A - not some fellow named "Bill" that doesn't sound like a "Bill" and isn't anywhere on this side of the world.

I concur, mine is about 12 years old, gear stripped, 17 dollars later it is on its way to my house. They were polite and helpful. Home depot stocks a lot of common replacement parts too, at least in this area.

My Genie remote quit working. I should have called them instead of just buying another. At least my money went to support a stand up company. Glad to hear it worked out for you.
