Trying to find some phantom loads in our house. Got a generic wattmeter.

Just trying to make sure I got the calculation right.

load (in watts) x 24hrs x 30 days x 12 months should about equal kWh consumed in 1 yr?

I think the power bar that my Gaming computer desk is plugged into draws about 2.7W when the monitors are in sleep mode and the PC is shutdown.

2.7x24x30x12 = 11,664Wh =11.7kWh? 23,328Wh or 23.3kWh (i hit 12 instead of 24 on the calculator) - I also wanted to see the monthly consumption as our bills are monthly.

I am looking for areas where I should install a smart switch to save on phantom loads.... of course, I have to measure how much standby power the smartswitch uses....

The monitor in sleep mode also draws a bit of power to keep the power up on demand circuity energized.

Just about everything electronic ***** some power when its "off".

TVs, stereos, computers, printers. HVAC, doorbell, wall warts, etc
UPSs use power when the things connected to them are off.
Fancy *** newer appliances, like a washing machine.
Even GFCIs use a tiny bit of power.

We are victims of technology.

yeah 24kWh/yr at an avg of about 14¢/kWh isn't much maybe $3/yr. I use the gaming PC about 10 evening hours/week. the rest is off.

I'm going to just turn off our wireless colour laser printer/multifunction machine off. It draws a bit more power in standby mode waiting for print jobs. We only print /scan with it maybe a couple times per month.

Going to measure the AV receiver and components in our media room.... I hardly use it, and my wife uses it 2-3x/week for an hour while she's on the treadmill...

This was our powerconsumption while the house was empty during the 1st week of January...
I know that my wife still had the outside Christmas lights (I believe they are all LED) on a timer for about 6 hrs in the evening... we also have:
2 full size fridges
medium deepfreeze upright
DC modulating blower furnace,
75gallon planted aquarium - 300w heater that runs as needed 24/7; 82W of lighting that runs about 7hrs/day

---maybe our phantom loads arent much... just want to investigate, and get smart switches if they are approaching 10w standby.

My home office setup is about 15w standby according to my emporia. That's a soundbar, two monitors, a laptop and a hubitat. I never actually turn everything off, just let it go to sleep.

The 15w actually surprises me a bit... While using it all, I am around 60-90w, so standby is a pretty big portion. Now I'm curious if it's one device in particular... Guessing the hubitat. Edit... It's the LG monitor. Pulls 10w in standby

With two fridges, a freezer, and a big fish tank I don't think you need to worry about 10 watt devices. Seems pretty clear what is driving your consuption.
