Looking to build an L shape garage/shop. Want to see what people have built.

Mine will be 4 car on one side and 3 on the other, where they meet I want that to be the machine shop area. 4 car side will be two car deep.

Lets see some... and... go!

Thanks in advance.

Works great for me on a somewhat smaller scale. My house (1st picture) had a 2 Car attached. I wanted to add on to the garage and attached a 3 car (44 x 23--zoning restriction) to the 2 car. There is a 6 foot opening cut between the two.

The two car original houses my wife's car in the bay closest to the house and my workshop in the second bay. The new garage holds left to right, desk and small work area, Daily Driver car, pickup truck, toy car (avatar) and a couple of bikes. lots of room in there for a homeowner.

Our home is on a cul-de-sac so the doors face away from the road. It's not quite as large as your plan, but it works great for our needs. We have additional loft storage above about 60% of the garage. It's still a work in progress with heat and additional storage planned for the near future.

Hi,

A long time ago, in San Francisco, I saw an "L" shaped basement garage with a turntable built into the floor. Just drive in and stop on the turntable, turn it 90 degrees and drive off....

When leaving you backed onto the turntable, turned it 90 degrees and drove straight out...

You never had to back out into traffic..

I always thought that was a trick set up to get around the corner and never have to back out...

Bob

If you have the space to do it - why not. Near me there is a fairly large pole barn like that. l think they did it because of the landscape.

Sounds perfect to me. Lots of parking and a dedicated workshop in the middle. In your case I'd use the two bay as the work in progress area and the four bay for parking.

I have a similar setup with a 3-bay parking garage and a 4-bay double deep workshop that's at a right angle to it. But with mine the basement of my house sits between where they meet. I can walk thru the basement to get from one to the other, but I usually just walk outside (unless there's a ton of snow).

I remember what you discribed as a somewhat common layout for service stations back in the day when they did more that sell gas.
Most often two doors facing the street and one door on the side.
Machine shop in the "heel" of the "L"

This is all I got handy (from when I got my lift).
Shop on left (doors under balcony), house in the middle over the truck, garag on the right (blue car peeking out).
