Ladder storage in garages - any creative ideas?

Anyone have some creative ideas for storing ladders (other than simply screwing in big hooks)? I have several of varying lengths from 6' to 12' (i.e., a 24' extension) that I'd prefer to keep indoors rather than expose 'em to the elements outside. Am stumped on how to cleanly hang them on wall perpendicular to floor (and low to the ground for easy access). I've got a clean slate of wall to work with, about 18' in length with 16" o.c. studs placed flush to the concrete block foundation.

Thanks for any tips, photos or suggestions.

I used box store shelf brackets and spaced them on the wall the distance apart and up off the floor that I wanted. Two shelf brackets will hold 2 extension ladders.

We keep them in the ceiling hanging on 4" channel from 5/8" allthread

I've kept a cheapo aluminum extension ladder outside for years and it seems no worse for the wear. I haven't noticed any corrosion on the ladder itself, some of the hardware looks bit rougher than when new, but not a big deal. I am even leaving my Little Giant outside in between jobs. I'll take it in for the winter but I'm sure it would fine outside as well.

I just use a big ladder hook and keep it next to the door in the "low rent" space. No way I am giving up prime garage space to a ladder.

Like was mentioned above, if you can hoist them up into the ceiling they are out of the way. Use some nylon rope and a couple of pulleys. hoist one end up, then the other. Of course this needs to be done parallel to the ceiling joists.

I keep my extension ladders parallel to the floor up against the wall. Under some shelves.
I did make a couple of wedges to keep them leaning against the wall without falling over.

I like to keep my walls as clear as possible or at least for stuff I use regularly. We just finished drywalling and insulating our garage. I plan to hook my extension ladder to the ceiling using generous size "J" hooks (2 spaced apart to fit between the legs of the first rung) and then use a pulley and small diameter rope to hoist the other end parallel to the ceiling. I'll tie it off in the corner of the garage. It will be out of the way, but still accessible for the 2 or 3 time a year I use it.

can't do the ceiling--due to overhead lighting and my garage door would get in the way when it rolls back, and regardless of how secure i could make it, i don't want anything hangin' above my car.

kin creed--i unfortunately don't have an out of the way outdoor space to store 'em, and some are fiberglass. would prefer to keep them inside.

You have now jinxed yourself and the ceiling is going to fall or the garage door is going to come off the track and fall.

Me, I hang them on them on the outside of the building under the eves.

I put mine under the overhanging roof, laid them up on the joists from the garage wall. Covered, but not using floor space in the garage. also have canoes and paddles up there.

If you have a pitched roof with an attic/loft and you also have a gable end then put a small door/hatch in the gable and store them in the attic/loft.

That is what I have done.

theres a thread here some where that someone did. where the ladder mounted on the ceiling using a home made bracket on 1 end and a hook at the other end . It looked real good too

I am another one using the ceiling.
A ¼ inch “J” bolt screwed through the drywall and into a joist.
One of those inverted “V” HF hooks hanging from it.
I have had a 32 and a 20 foot orange hanging up there for over 10 years.
You do have to hug the ceiling so the garage door doesn’t hit them.

I lay mine across the tracks of my garage door, in the portion that hangs past the ceiling brackets. Bungee cord to hold it against the brackets keeps it there.

My ladders are in my house. Garage space is too valuable. I even keep one upstairs. Got tired of carrying it up there to change my filters.

My longest step ladder 8', is hung by Ladder Hooks from it's top, on the garage door header. Then, the other end is raised by rope and pulleys.

The OH door clears the ladder when it is opened. Of course, the door must be closed to get to the ladder.

2 step ladders are above the ceiling joists (above the garage door). The aluminum extension ladder is a problem, for me. That's in my storage unit. I cannot figure any way to keep that thing in the garage and I hated it sitting beside it. Too many scrappers/thieves out and about. Plus, it's an eye sore.

The fiberglass is hanging from the ceiling in the garage. The extension ladder is outside under the eaves. I want to hang them on the fence with a small roof overhang. Dad used to just lay them in the center of the floor and drive the car over them.

I had mine hanging outside but they got all dirty and were loaded with spiders so I built an addition to the garage to store the ladders. (I have since painted the exterior but I have no updated pic)
