We close on the dream house in a few weeks and I am beyond excited! The original owners (friends of ours) have named this property “Lake Lilypad” because of the private pond that is on it. Just under 5 acres with a 1900 sf rambler with 3 car attached garage. And a 32x48 shop with office, tool room, and loft. I had to make some sacrifices by selling a few of my classic cars to get the funds together to pay off debt, and fix up my current home to sell which is set to close on the 22nd of this month. But it was worth it! Cars come and go but the perfect forever home for the family only comes around once in a lifetime! And family comes first!

The shop is a little on the awkward side because it has a big center spit sliding door that is in the center of the 32’ side and the shop runs long ways. It’s going to make using the side space a little interesting. It also has a carport running the entire length of the shop that sticks about 12’ to the side which creates excellent storage. It is going to be a long time before the dust settles and I have the finances to really start the custom work I want to complete.

The house has a three car attached which will store the wife’s car, the jeep, and a couple of my motorcycles. Most my project vehicles and tractors and my truck will be covered under the carport which will leave the shop empty for whatever project I want to work on. This will be the first garage I will have that will be dedicated to work and not to storage/work.

I know this is a little premature but as soon as I move in I will snap some pictures and share! Always love coming on here seeing the fun projects others are working so I thought I would share mine!

Thanks! It’s the waiting that’s killing me! First things I want to do to the shop are…

Build work benches
Add storage
Insulate the walls (Ceiling is already)
Hook up existing wood stove for heat
Find out best way to position two post lift
Enclose carport

Went over to the new place last night to pick out the carpet we are going with and snapped a few quick pictures! Sorry the quality are not that good and it was raining…

First couple are pretty self-explanatory.

Where do you live? If it's in the south I'd be stocking that pond full of bass. Could be quite a lot of fun in the future.

It's located in Pierce County Washington State. Supposedly it already has trout and bass in it but a few weeks of exploratory fishing will see! I have a buddy who works for DNR and is in charge of fish relocation and can hook me up with blue gill and brown trout for free as they are always looking for ponds. They have an over abundance of fish and are always unloading somewhere. And supposedly bluegill breed like crazy! Also I'm big into migratory bird hunting and ducks and geese are always stopping by:thumbup:

You "sing" tomorrow? Why not just sing right now and get it over with?!:bounce::bounce::bounce:

I know, I know...just being an AHole. Sometimes you gotta go with your strengths and unfortunately, that's one of mine!

Thanks! Still envisioning the final result. But here is a list of things I plan on doing soon:

Finish organizing and build storage in the loft.
Build work benches around my tool boxes
Run air lines throughout
Add lighting in the tool room (because he took all of it)
And before winter hook up the wood stove for heat

Thing that are on my wish list but not a priority are as follows:

Insulate the walls (Ceiling is already)
Drywall/mud/tape and paint white
Install two post lift
Enclose carport to make wood working area

I’m sure many things will come to me during the process as this place in so inspiring! But those are the things I want to accomplish at the moment.

All I can say is YOU ****.

Actually i am happy for you. Plenty of room for a lift in the shop. The pitch on the roof of the house is very shallow. Make sure you keep a good roof on it.

Hey, is that a volcano?

The long term plan when roof replacement is necessary is go to with a metal roof and be done with it! And whatever color we decide to go with we will paint the shop the same color to match.

And yes that is Mt. Rainier, been living in its shadow for my entire life.

Question for ya’ll, the former home owner has given me the opportunity to purchase the 60 gallon Ingersoll Rand 220 air compressor in the back left of this image (Terrible picture I know) It’s not brand new but it’s at least 5 years old because he said he got it when they moved in. I know what they go for new but am not familiar with the used market. What would you guys say its worth? Thanks!

Looks like about $680 new from max Tool. Plus any shipping.

Heck offer half price or so and see if he goes for it. Might not want to hassle moving it.

You get to decide the value of it, to you....

Great place by the way!

Well haven't gotten as much done as I would have thought I would by now. Set up the office as my reloading room. Using the loft as storage and overflow at the moment. Long term plans are to clear it out and use it as work space. Hung a chain fall in the shop and already have pulled a couple motors and seems to be working good.

My wife wanted to get into wood working so she got a bunch of tools for Christmas and this past weekend we built a work bench together. Progress is slow but there. Sometimes I just go out and sit in the shop after work and have to remind myself that it's real... Such a dream come true

Was at the local Costco today and couldn’t help from buying a couple LED shop lights. They will be great for illuminating my tool room. Currently only have one small shop light in there..

Close enough to Wash. DC
I just caught your post from June. WOW on the home and the out building and OMG on the view. It is so satisfying to do as you are doing because to fits your needs, and you can not have enough lighting. Are you topping the work benches with masonite? Dennis

Slowly but surely I will make it everything I have dreamed of! I think the three lights in the tool room are going to be sufficient. The space is only roughly 12’x12’. I will be sure to take pictures once hung though!

I had thought about putting some type of covering on them but hadn’t really looked into it. I like the rustic look. Reminds me of my dad’s shop where he just had 2x6’s for a top. But the uneven surface and spaces between could create a problem when working on smaller projects.

Congrats on the home, shop, site, and your contentment. Very few people find that in today's world! I'm from Myrtle Beach, SC, but miss the PNW after being stationed in Portland for 7 years. Miss them elk!

That shop is 32' in width? Looks a hair narrower than that? What is the height?

Great combination of amenities and view! Places like that were always available when I wasn't in a position to buy. Are you sure you want to enclose the shed-roof on the side? Sometimes it's really convenient to have a covered but open area to work on messy stuff. It can keep sawdust and other stuff off the important stuff inside the garage.

Speaking of elk! This was taken just about a few weeks after we moved in from my back yard. To bad all I had was my crummy cell phone camera! Notice it’s a Bull, Cow, and calf all walking together?

You know what I think it is narrower than that.. When I posted this thread originally I had not even moved in and that is the dimensions they told me. But the work bench I built was only 12’ long. adding the roughly 6”-8” wall separating my tool room and my reloading room, I would say the width is 24’-25’ wide. Guess I will need to measure lol They may have been counting the width of the Carport in their measurements.
