was just at the pawnshop, they have a red vise with Lakeside on one side and no other markings i could find. It's a swivel with about 3.5" jaws or so. Any chance it's USA made? Had 24.99 on it.

I have an old Lakeside with 3" jaws on my welding bench. Main casting is marked V7, dynamic jaw is marked V6, but no COO markings. I don't think its an import, but :dunno:

It is small, but the jaws open quite wide for it's size.

that same ad is all I could find too.

Outlaw, yes the jaws do open quite wide and it has an anvil section. I think I'll stop by tomorrow and offer $20 for it. can't really go wrong at that price.

I have a red Lakeside as well, 3.5". Got it long enough ago (and it was old then) where I am fairly certain it was US made. Its a good light duty vise, prolly worth 24.99 or whatever you can bargain it down to. Matt

FWIW..........................................

There was a Lakeside Forge in Eire, PA that was independent of Montgomery Wards.
I have an 8" adjustable wrench from them, that is clearly marked....USA.

The lakeside Forge you mention in Eire PA is a different Lakeside forge than the one that made vises. Apparently there were several "lakeside Forge" companies. These Lakeside vises appear to be made under the Montgomery Wards Lakeside moniker, and are apparently early 20th century and most certainly US made.

Google "Desmond Stephan Simplex Utility No.400" images, and compare to a Lakeside 4" and you'll see they are one and the same.

Man you've gotta love those 1931 prices. It's $1.89, but it's exactly like those expensive $3.50 vises. :D

I looked at a new $ 48,000.00 pickup, today...

That was about 12 hours ago...

My blood pressure has finally dropped enough for me to see the laptop's keys...

I want one of those "expensive" vises!!!
