Hello, I would be interested if anyone has any recommendations on a wood laminate floor cutter, similar to the photo shown. I am looking for the hand operated guillotine type. I know Roberts and Marshalltown have these. But I would like recommendations on any other makes also. A 9 inch board is the widest I will be using. I hope to purchase one while in the USA this summer. Thank you, Kevin

Are you a flooring contractor? The only reason I see to use one of these is to save a little time from having to stand up and walk to the saw. It won't save you from needing power tools. If you aren't a contractor doing laminate it seems like an expensive purchase for minimal results.

If you are a contractor then the Roberts you pictured works fine but I didn't like them enough to spend the money on one.

Pretty sure the bullet and roberts are made by the same company. There is also one they call a "light weight" cutter that isn't quite as big and works just the same.

If I did laminates everyday I would get something but where that isn't my main money maker I don't see the need.

I've got the Bullet Magnum, and I can say for certain they are NOT made by the same company as Roberts even if they have certain parts that appear similar. Marshalltown bought Bullet (after I bought my shear), but the Bullet line appears to be unchanged other than in marketing.

The savings with these shears is tremendous. Aside from being able to make your cross cuts where you're working (which is an incredible time saver), there's also the huge amount of mess you avoid. Also, the wear layer on laminate flooring is hellish abrasive on carbide saw blades, so you'll be replacing a saw blade for every room you re-floor, and the shear blades last a LONG time in comparison. Mine's done around 3000 square feet of flooring and is still sharp as new.

As for why I chose the Magnum, it's because everything else has sliding plastic cams where the Magnum uses bearings. Do you need that? I doubt it unless you're doing a whole lot of hardwood installs. For typical floors, the cheap ones should be fine.
