We have carpet in our living room that is wearing very badly. My wife wants to replace it with laminate. That is fine, but the living room and kitchen are both part of a wide open area. The kitchen is already a laminate floor, but I can't find the exact match anywhere. I think it would look goofy to put a slightly different color of floor next to it. When something like this happens do you just have to bite the bullet and replace all of it to make it uniform? Or would going with a contrasting color of laminate in the living room be an option? I'm lost on this sort of thing, any advice is appreciated.

all or none...unless you can find the same stuff, but even then batches vary in their own manufacture date range....

Either replace it all, or pick something that is obviously intentionally different.

IE, if it's darker 'wood' in the kitchen, use a much lighter colour in the lvrm. Maybe even run the 'boards' the other way.

At least that way it doesn't look like you tried to match it but failed...

Laminate flooring changes products just like carpet and vinyl. Then you might find your color but its a different size plank now. Just do it all and I would suggest a Quick step product.
