They probably think they are being very clever.

Probably think they are “adding value”.

They think there can’t be much value in an old vice as you can get a new one for $25?

What they don’t understand of course, is anything about vices. They don’t understand what that’s worth restored, or why, so they waste their time doing stuff like this.

They probably have $20 into this, the most expensive part being the fake vintage bulb from Home Depot. On top of that, they will probably get their full asking price.

I have known a few guys that are the target market for this. They were Trustefarians, but as they got older and fatter they became Lumbersexuals. Their entire day consists of keeping themselves and their rescue pit bull fed and spending their parents money. If they come even close to running out of money, they threaten to move back home (at 50 years old). Soon after that, their bank account is full again. Wash rinse repeat.

Needs a lamp shade. I'd have a drink holder in the vise jaws. Hope he gets his money for it...I got two old 4" vises free that were being used as door stops.

Guys who are in to stuff like that should instead put together things like this. I bet there is a bigger market for clever pipe fittings.

Who cares?

This is the way to see it. The world is filled with vintage vises. If one puts in a little effort, he will be flush with them.

I will probably buy more vises, but I never need another one.

Better than tossing the old vise in the dumpster. That lamp made from pipes is neat.

My main issue with most of these repurposed tool-lamp-things (or stuff made out of pipe) is that they're just super tacky. I can't really think of many houses (or locations within a house) where that would look good.

Meh, it’s pretty silly looking but OTOH I have drooled over a few bits of furniture made from car parts in the past, so to each their own. That said, that’s a <$10 vise used, <$5 if it’s Chinese Wilton. My wife actually has that exact US Wilton vise on her craft table, I paid $1 for it a few years ago and honestly - it’s a turd.
