land drainage info?

does anyone know of any forums or sites that have info about land drainage? i will be renting equipment to do the work myself and was looking for some fairly in-depth information? info on swales, french drains, perforated pipes, land sloping ect.

maintain 3:1 side slopes on swales so you can mow them

try to maintain minimum 0.5% grade on the swales to avoid ponding water (1% if you can get it)

dont like french drains - they will eventually silt in - unless you're in gravelly soil area and maintain the french drain to keep the silt out

I would not recommend perforated tile in areas where tree roots are near, or in a sandy soil area. tree roots will grow thru the perforations in search of water, and sand will seep in as well. Use filter fabric and possibly some stone around the tile if have to use perforated tile in sandy areas
