Lang Rethreader Sets

Hi guys,

So last weekend I messed up a ball joint stud using a ball joint separator (there's a thread for that). The stud was a M12x1.25, which apparently wasn't in my tap and die set, or my dad's. I had to go around looking for a die to repair the thread. At that moment, only Sears had the 40 pc rethreader set in stock that had the size M12x1.25 that I needed, so I had to buy it.

The next day, I remember woodstockva did a review on a similar set. I looked it up and it's actually a bigger set, 48 pieces. The extra pieces are mostly metric.

The only problem I see with the 40 pc set is that it only has 1 pitch for M10, and no M14. The 48 pc set seems to include all that.

So the question is, are the extra sizes (2 M10 pitches, M11, and M14) worth the switch if I plan to buy a good set and keep it for future mess-ups :D ?

The sets in question

I bought the Lang equivalent 48pc set from Sears many years ago. It has served me very well

Honestly for the price difference that is what I would get again if I had to buy one today. The extra sizes may come in handy in the future...

They the same thing, same quality so talking about buying the larger set isn't talking about a better (or good) set compared to what you got.
How useful those missing sizes are depends on what you work on. I have the larger set also but only use a handful of the pieces. I wouldn't buy the larger set now unless you need a whole additional set...seek out the missing sizes if a job presents itself needing them...or if ocd is a factor.
Think of the other sizes like this...there are course and fine thread variants and both are used, but when was the last time you ran into 1/4-28 instead of 1/4-20?
