It's hard to say. COO is a moving target, constantly changing. I went to the Lang Tools website and they don't list COO. It's been many years since I've bought a rethreader set. :dunno:

Just bought this exact one. I'll update when I receive it. The Lang branded one still says USA but this Kastar one says china.

I hope theyre still make in the US, I've been looking to pick up a set. If not may just have to go with Jawco, they all look like theyre from the same manufacturer. Just some different lipstick.

I have that Lang set and mine is made in the USA.

I recently reached out to them via the Lang website to warranty or purchase the 6-32 tap that I broke. I got a reply back through AE Tools (parent company?) I had a new tap in a couple days.

Nope, completely different companies.

I know they are different companies, but the Jawco stuff I just got from McMaster are marked the exact same way/font/style etc as my older Lang/Kastar/CMan stuff....made me "assume" right then and there that Jawco was the manufacturer for all them......:dunno:

There has long been speculation that some of these companies are selling the same product in a different package. A couple previous threads touched on this but I really don't remember it being verified or even if it can be verified.

I do know I use my Jawco set far more than I thought I would when I bought it. I wrench on our Harleys and thread locker is used on nearly everything. I like to clean up the threads so that my torque wrench stands a chance of being somewhere near accurate without removing material like taps and dies do.

It's not unusual for Chinese vendors to take control (IE hack) the Amazon buy box. It happened to me when I bought "Made in Germany" Renmsteig extractors from Amazon and they shipped from China. I complained immediately and alerted the real vendor, and 2 months later the fake vendor was gone. Lighting fast action there by Amazon [emoji849]

This has happened to maybe a dozen of our brand's Amazon items. Most of the time it's the features being replaced in their system being lost then spit out again in a weird jumble. Looked just like these with the incorrect COO.

A few cases the item page was taken over by a different brand or a fake, but less common - although for some reason not easily corrected.

Amazon is convenient and the fact that they use their size to undercut competitors on shipping often makes them the best price. But that doesn't make up for the rediculous amount of scammers they allow. I try to avoid them whenever possible.

I spoke to the owner of Jawco a few months ago and he said that years ago they used to be a big OEM supplier. No longer though, IIRC that ended back in the 90's. The thread restorers I got from Jawco recently were pretty noticeably different from my 20 year old C'man/Lang set (font, style, etc. Even the O.A.L. was slightly different between the two).

I got my set from tooldiscounter a month or so ago. Made in USA. They list it as the Kastar 971 but really its the Lang version (Lang bought Kastar).

Interestingly the Amazon picture does not show the size chart with the Made in USA box. I checked tooldiscounter and their picture does show the size chart with the Made in USA box. The price is also better than Amazon.

Lang did not buy Kastar, its the same company. They changed to their family name.

I have a number of JAWCO sets bought from KD Tools back in the seventies and singles bought over the years. I have a MAC labeled set from when KASTAR was the brand and they both work good but I see the JAWCO are more consistent on sizing and markings

Ebay also allows a ridiculous number of scammers and fakes. The difference is everyone gets their own listing, while on Amazon they impinge on legit brands.
