I'm new to this board but can use any meaningful help in planning out a 40' x 50' x 14' metal building with a 4:12 pitched roof. I live in south Texas and in a rural area. I'm retired and plan on using the workshop for metal machining operations, woodworking, plus just about anything else. I am situated on just over 2 acres and have lots of lawn to mow and equipment to up keep; huge oak tree to trim and such tasks.
On the building, I'm looking for suggestions on best comapnies to consider for purchase and best erectors. I have the foundation pretty well planned out. I want a IBC'06 class building, wind load rated at 120 MPH. Insulation is a great concern and I was considering Prodex Total 48 all around. Any users of this product please respond. Also, lighting is a major purchase so I was wondering if roof panels that are designed to let in light are worth the risk of wind and damage and rain issues. Natural ight can go a long way lowering electirc expense. I will plan a number of windows. Further, I was thinking about a large exhaust fan mounted about 14' high at the base maybe 4' x 4' to help clean the building of hot air in the summer. A 14' wide x 12' high roll up door on one end.

Hello and Howdy – I’m new to this forum. I moved onto 113 acres with nothing but a rutted dirt road accessing it. I’ve been through water development, photovoltaic installation (no power lines here), grading, some building, gardening, and – well, if I haven’t done it, I probably will (if I don’t kill over first). I figure I can learn from you folks, and hopefully contribute some too. Wife and I are planning a shop which will house all our projects – just in the sketch stage at the time. It’s going to have to be big.

Welcome cwalt!

I'm a big fan of clerestory windows, especially if you can open them for some air movement.....they let in a lot of light and in a 14' tall building, they don't compromise security. if you're planning to A/C the building, then whether they open or not is less important.

I also like skylights, but question them on a hot Texas summer day.......

Show us your plans when you get them drawn up!
