Large ceiling fans without remotes?

We're getting ready to close on a house next week and I'm already looking ahead to all the customization we plan to do.

The house is ~25 years old, very well-maintained but many of the fixtures are a little dated. We plan to replace the lights and fans with stuff more our taste. We like the look of the integrated light with 6+ blades.

The problem I'm running into is finding larger fans in the 60+ inch range (for the large peaked-ceiling living room and our bedroom) that don't have ****ing remotes or wall controls. Many of them you can't even bypass the controller because they're DC motors. I don't want a "smart" fan, I want a dumb fan! I want something that I can turn the lights and fan on independently using normal wall switches. Remotes get lost or broken and are never where you want them.

I mean, I'm a big fan of some automation devices but I'm planning to use Hubitat because it's locally-controlled and don't want to have to use some shady cheap Chinese spy app or a physical remote just to turn the lights and fan on independently. And we don't use Alexa/Google/Siri.

Anyone have recommendations?

For a couple of our fans that are spec'd the way you describe, I mounted the holder for the ceiling fan remote immediately next the wall switchplate. It stays there all the time, and you just push the appropriate button (light/fan speed) without even taking it out of the holder.

I guess you could even put a piece of double sided tape on the remote before you put it in the holder, if you think some fool might remove it just to push a button, lol.

If you do not want a remote control, and you do not want a DC brushless motor, it sounds like you will probably have to look at industrial options.

I kept it simple. I have Quorum Alto fans. 4 of them running for 5 years with no issues. 62". I have wall switches to turn them on and off. They can take light kits, but I don't have any. I use the pull chain to change speed, and that's almost never. They are silent. We have one right over the bed. Dead silent. I believe you can install remote kits inside the fans, but it seems you and I don't want them...

FWIW when we built the house I asked the lighting store about Hunter (I had a few from many years ago, including a Hunter Original) The sales person laughed and said that's a Home Depot brand. I don't know it that is true.

Getting automation where we don’t want it is gonna get worse and worse. I’d really like a car with a foot mounted high beam switch and a regular key. And of course, manual transmission. Harder and harder to find.

Anyway, on your issue, it may be an option to strip out the circuitry and just run a regular motor off a switch. Would require some work inside the fan.

I read something not too long ago about someone wiring up regular thermostats to broken window units. The control boards have gone bad, but they still worked fine as far as the compressor and fan went.

Many newer fans are using dcbl motors. Can still be wired up without a micro controller but a bit more involved since it takes a dedicated driver

yes, the plethora of smart everything is really a pain these days. What makes it worse is that many go with "systems." A person buys one of these, adds two of those, adds another one of these, a couple light switches etc.. and then three or four years later when one of those items goes bad, the whole system is discontinued and no parts are available.
