Large Diameter Arbor on Bench Grinder

I have been looking into bench grinder arbor adapters and wheels and realized there are wheels (fiber wheels mostly) that have upwards of 4" arbor holes.
I myself have a fiber wheel with a 3" arbor hole which started my search for adapters/bushings.

Is there any rhyme or reason to these larger diameter arbor wheels? Obviously up to an inch would be a nice sturdy arbor shaft but anything over that must not be fitting directly on the shaft and meant just for those tabbed inserts.

Are these wheels meant for multiple tools and thats why they manufacture them for an adapter?
or is there a giant 3" arbor grinder that this wheel is designed for?

See link for example

Most grinders used for commercially sharpening drills and lathe/mill bits grind from the side so the feed and load is from the side. This eliminates grinding a curve into the tool. These type grinders use large center holes to support the side loads.

Those wheels with a large center hole are probably for a centerless grinder. I dont see any reason an adapter can't be made, as long as the wheel is rated for the speed you will put to it.

I don't know the answer why, but I have some ~6"OD X2"wide flap wheels that have a 1.5"? pilot hole. (edit- for a bench grinder type situation, not angle grinder) I used to use them to sharpen knives but got tired of getting them close to radially centered on the shaft with the stamped adapters; so I bought a Work Sharp and I now no longer dread sharpening knives.
