Picked up rather large and heavy jack. I'm guessing 4-500 lbs. I can't figure out who made it? I'm thinking Walker as there are some similarities to another Walker I have. Any ideas?

I'm not sure of your weight estimate, but I agree walker jack.

I had to work with getting this out of my truck by myself so I probably overestimated the weight. It was heavier than I anticipated.

Just a follow up...I bought 3 large jacks fairly cheap. Two 4 ton and the 10 ton I asked about earlier. Out of them the ajax and the 10 ton look salvageable. I'm guessing this Blackhawk is not worth it with the damage. Looks like I will be eventually getting kits for the others. The 10 ton even works under air but there are some leaks. Thanks for your help!

Those floor jacks have had a tough life... I've never seen the jack with the square saddle, do you happen to know the model? I've also bought 4-floor jacks that came in a lot a few months back.
-1.5T Hein-Werner WS
-4T Weaver WI-73
-4T Blackhawk S4
-generic 2-3t import

all for $20 CAD each. The repairs the previous owner made look very sophisticated compared to that welded lifting arm saddle mount. No repairs were crucial like that, it was a fill port, a wheel repair (which was very well done, I couldn't have done better myself), and a bearing repair for the s-4 that barely works. I personally don't think I would use a jack with a repair like that, you have 2 other long frame jacks so I'm sure it's not the end of the world.

I actually bought the lot for the S-4, it was the only jack I was able to identify back then, once I picked them up I realized it was quite messed up. The most unique part IMO, the handle, at one point, broke off and welded back with a garden-grade knob... It worked but knowing I wasn't going to be able to restore it to its former glory I didn't really want to touch it. It was at about the same point I was able to identify the all-American Hein-Werner WS 1.5T, its lowrider stance stuck out and over the winter months, I restored it.

anyways.... have fun rebuilding these jacks, it is a very rewarding process and in the end, you have something that will be useful for the next 30+ years. Keep us updated too!

The one with the square saddle is a Blackhawk SJ4 I believe. It's the broken one. Yes I'm not heartbroken over it as the others appear usable, certainly after they get new seals. I liked the Ajax which is basically a Walker the best. The 10 ton will come in handy with tractors. Once I get theses apart I will find the seal kits. Thanks,!

I wish you the best of luck… I don’t want to be Debbie downer, but I have a feeling you are going to be disappointed.

When the valve plugs blend in with the hydraulic unit and are so filled up with rust that they appear the same height… it’s not good. Hopefully the reservoir plug was removed by you and not open to the elements, Even then they aren’t water proof when installed. I’d Recommend getting some penetration oil on those camouflaged plugs, Rinse and repeat.

When I first started out, I’d work on stuff like that, The majority from Gov surplus auctions. The struggles are real, A seal kit should be the last thing on your mind at this point. It took a lot of machining, New Hard parts, Valve seat work etc and I’d say a New cylinder might be on the work order.

On the plus side, It’s your property and not a customers. It makes the $$$ investment a little easier to explain as you peel back the layers of the onion.

Yes they look rough, After I cleaned them up I see potential in the 2? We will see. you know better than I do you are likely right. I took the plug out of the 10 ton unit. I generally would have passed on these. When I buy stuff like this I look at the sum of the parts and metal. I do fab work and have related metal working machinery. so If they won't work as jacks the metal and things will go to other purposes, the Ajax is cast so not much I can do with that. I think I was close to scrap metal prices on these.

Had some time so I tore into the Ajax and got it all apart. Started on the hydraulic unit. Ram doesn't look too bad. Cylinder walls looked the same. The gland nuts for the pumps are getting penetrate treatment before I try to get those off. my wrenches don't grab them well and it's already been boogered up. I suppose I should make a socket for those? What do others use or tricks for them?

I had a hook spanner that fit one of my gland nuts, it worked well enough that I made another hook spanner out of 1/4” thick aluminum stock to fit the other one. I think I just used a scroll saw and a file to shape it. Once I used a pair of 45 degree angled needle nose pliers to fit into the slots, watch out for slipping loose if you use this method. I have also used a pair of channellocks before, but I did not like the marks it left on the metal.

I have have various hook wrenches but it didn't want to budge. Hopefully the kroil gets in there over the night and try it again. Thanks

The speed side looks recessed, I suspect it’s overly tight but the grooves look decent, the power side looks like it’s seen a punch or two.

Got down to the shop and got everything loose. I have a toolbox full of odd tools that really don't fit my purpose and in there I found a socket thing that I think is for bicycles? Fit that smaller gland nut perfect and got it out easily. At this point it's time to track down a rebuild kit before I polish things up a bit. I don't like critical finish surfaces sitting out tool long. Surfaces of critical parts don't look too bad. I am more familiar with pneumatic cylinders and have rebuilt many this is somewhat similar so far?

Just a follow up. Got the seal kit from Hydraulic Parts Supply in Sawyer, KS as Hiball suggested. They have great service, ordered Friday afternoon and in the mail box Monday. I installed the kit and so far so good. I need to get bearings and put the wheels on and then verify operation under load. If all goes well then I will take it apart and make it pretty.
