Large metric wrenches

If you were to buy 3 or 4 metric ratcheting wrenches 20mm or larger which size would you buy?

I already have 8-19mm and 1/4-1 1/4" covered.

21,22,24,27,30,32. Depending on what you work on, 30 and 32 may be pointless.

I was thinking 21 22 24 and 27 but did know for sure. I cant say ive ever used my 20 23 and 25mm sockets and I know Ive never used my 30 and 32mm stuff.

I mostly tinker on 70-80s 4wd trucks but have lifted a few new trucks as well.

If you've got a 7/8" already you don't really need a 22mm, but 21, 24, and 27 would be good to have around.

I've been slowly filling out the large metric combo wrenches at the flea market. I keep a list in my pocket. I have everything from 20mm to 34mm except 28, 31 and 33 mm.

Most are K-D or Allen long pattern, one Snap On I bought years ago to do pull checks on an Aerospatiale helicopter rotor head, one Stahwillie, one Williams, and one Indestro.

21, 22, 24 and money in the pocket. While I've needed larger sizes in the past, I've never needed a wrench in that size, it's always a big *** breaker bar.

21,22,24, and 27. Those are the most common large metric sizes.

I've used and own 21, 22, and 24mm ratcheting wrenches. Anything bigger, I'm thinking impact wrench or conventional wrench.

Many of the larger sizes of metric and standard wrenches are within a few hundredths of an inch of being the same size. With good wrenches grabbing on the flats of fasteners a lot of "corners could be cut" if you already have a complete standard set. Get a conversion chart out and take a look maybe.

Yep... I have 6-19mm and then 21mm, 22mm & 24mm

Any bigger than that and decent one are very expensive and will so seldom be used.

As a Dutch/Metric-only guy I say: 21-22-24mm.
Bigger sizes are too expensive and rarely used.

In Europe a set of wrenches is usually 6 -24mm with the exception of 20mm. These sets are used for 90% of the work on hand.

The biger sizes (up to 32mm) are still common but way less used. Bigger sizes usually sees 1 per size in a workshop in central location for that shop, along with the not-so-much-used specials.

I was just contemplating the same thing. I filled in all the blanks of my ratcheting wrench set from 8-19 and was wondering if I should bother with the bigger ones. I drive a new VW that I'm constantly modding so I keep reading how to and install threads on the VW forums to see what size tools are mentioned just in case I decide to do those mods and need the wrench haha.

I have metric and SAE ratchet wrenches that goto 34mm and 1-1/4". All Stanley, you can get them under the Blackhawk name too, same wrenches. I got them on ebay at a fairly good price. I use 15/16" and 1-1/16" mostly. The rest seem novelty to me unless I find a situation where it would make them useful.

I bought a 21,22,24,25 gearwrench set on sale for $60. Won't use the 25 too often, but the package price is worth it.
