Large pry bar storage

I am trying to solve a dilemma I have had for a week or two. I got my hands on a Cornwell PBH60 60" pry bar a while back. Really nice tool for the money IMHO.

BUT, i don't have a way to secure it when I am away from the shop. I trust all the guys I work with, but it it all the random customers strolling through the shop while I am on road calls that worry me. I want to figure out a way to store it that is secure.

There is no way I can put it on my box since I only have a Snap On KRL722 box. no where near wide enough to store it.

Do you guys have any solutions for large pry bar storage?

Hang it out of reach.

Or is it too heavy to take down while on a ladder?

Make some hangers/brackets to mount it under a workbench top, where no one will see it.

That is about the method I am using right now. I keep it on top of my tool box (tool box, plus riser, plus top box). On a 54" box only the handle hangs off. I was just looking for any "better" ideas/

When I was still working in a shop enviroment I faced the same dilema, and i was looking for an old school locker it isn't too big and take alot of room but would hold long items and lockable. Changed careers and now not an issue at home in the garage.

Mayhew makes that pry bar. http://www.toolweb.com/products/MAY80029 this is a vault that will hold it. You will have to bolt it to the wall. Ask your dealer about it. The part number will be MH80029.

What about chains and locks. Get two pieces of pipe and weld plates on one end and a piece of chain to the other. Slide pipes on end of bar , pull chains tight an add lock. secure other end of chain to secure item. This may just stop the honest ones.

You can do about the same thing with an electrical box. Pick out one with a hinged cover and padlock hasp, then drill holes for your prybars that are large enough to pass the bar but not the handle. Then mount it to the wall high enough to clear.

i like the idea of an elictrical type box, or similar, with holes to slide them through. mounted on a wall or somewhere out of the way.

making a rack on the side of the box, painted to match would be cool. with a hinged cap that swings over the handles and locks them in place. i might draw something up like that.

i too have a rod that wont fit in my drawers...... i mean pry bar that wont fit in my tool box.... :rocker:

These are for screwdrivers and mabey up to a 24" pry bar. These are designed to mount to your roll cart.

true - maybe that was their intent

but they have mounting holes you can put into the wall

if you put them up high enough, you can put larger prybars in... they have some 1" holes - if that's not big enough you can drill larger ones

Left to right

36"(I think can't remember now) 44" 58"

That's the Mayhew part numbers on the shaft.

I will be bringing home my long pry bar. It is just a 36" Mac, but the handle is too damned long for anything I have at the shop, so it can come home and rest on the workbench.
