I'm looking for a a large size (12") pair of shop scissors. I need them for making cardboard templets, cutting carpet, etc... I found a few Wiss on Amazon that look pretty good but it doesn't say where they are made. I know some Wiss stuff is made in the US, but the newer stuff is coming from China. I would like American made or German if possible.

I already have a nice pair of leather shears so I don't need anything to cut leather or other harder materials.

What do you guys recommend?

I'm a big fan of Wiss, but I understand the hesitancy because of the COO confusion. Don't buy anything with plastic handles. They won't last no matter how good the blades are.

In my experience Klein makes some good ones. I have several pair for various applications.

You can find some really nice older scissors on ebay if you are into vintage US stuff. Pretty simple to sharpen them too. My mom wanted some pinking shears and I talked her away from the chinese ones at Michael's in favor of ebay. The ones I got her were NOS from the 1960s, in the original box, and cheaper than the modern chinese shears.

I have a bunch of vintage scissors that I need to get sharpened. For this purchase I would like new for once. :lol:

I'd still look into Wiss shears and find out what suits your needs best.

Carpet and cardboard are not the same as cutting regular clothing fabric or even commerical grade fabric and regular 8.5 x 11 paper.

I deal in cutting woven kevlar roll fabric and that gets you into the bonus round of what to use.

Good is not going to be cheap, but the Wiss offerings are still among the best.

Carpet=shears
Cardboard=heavy duty scissors or shears depending upon crush rate and intricacy of the cut.

Thanks for the info! :thumbup:

I could only find coo on the Wiss on one pair and they said "Columbia". Anyone know the coo on most Wiss scissors/shears?

Pray tell, what's the difference between heavy duty scissors and shears?

I think you're going to like those. Wiss builds for the long haul. If you take care of them, you'll be handing them down to your grandkids. :thumbup:
