Large shop wiring tips

I’ve built a 40x64x12 with 8x64 porch. I plan on dividing workspace in half . One side will be a wood shop , other side will be for servicing my vehicles. I’d like some ideas outside lights , inside lights , best heat and air for both sides. I plan on running interior wires through metal conduit . Thanks

Big is subjective but,,,, if there is gobs of hi demand equipment on other side from the service it can save a lot of pipe and wire by running another panel. It can also provide local disconnect means especially if there are walls or thing that interfere with line of site rules.

Standard rope-style LED (Costco) down the middle for "evening" lighting.

For a shop this big, I run sub-panels. I basically spawn off to 2-3 50A sub-panels, with the panel feeds running through 1" through-slab conduit. I tend to use exterior sub-panels with 20A, 30A, 50A breakers/outlets on them - they run about $150 per sub panel.

I have these in my pole barn. They're 200W. They're great. I have the dimmable versions (0v-10v). They put out a lot of light. The dimmer is a must.

UFO style lights are designed to be used at actual HIGH bay mounting heights. Think 20' as likely being too low for them to work well. Only place I've been happy with them is 3 used in a 30x120' storage building with 3 evenly spaced and mounted at 28'.

If you look in my build you can see that I mounted my panel in the dividing wall so that I could go to either side easily. I've been happy with that decision.

From the breaker panel I ran 3/4” to the far corners or to all 4 wall under the concrete and set deep boxes and pulled then wire with room to spare for future concerns or wishes. Sure saved lots of drilling and pulling romex.

2. Are *you* doing the work?

3. Do you want tips for doing it? for lights? for design? how to get a bid?

4. I think you mean EMT, not conduit.

5. I like recessed lights outside, cast down. So the place doesnt look like a UFO at night. In the porch overhang or in soffits.

6. What is the construction? Standard stud walls? Will it be insulated and sheetrocked? Do you want the EMT visible or in the walls???

I could go on.....

Just wired up my 50x80 shop. Looking back a subpanel opposite wall from the main panel would've saved me money and time with running conduit and pulling wire 100plus feet on some runs.

These are the dimmers I used for my led lights. Warehouse deals are cheap and worked perfectly.
