I'm looking at doing a 55x76x12 shop. Looking for internal ideas on what goes where. I have some ideas, but would like to see some options and other ideas.

The main door is in a corner, on a 55' wall - so the shop would be 55 wide by 76 deep.

Thanks
Doug

What kind of projects are you into?
Automotive, metal working, wood working, boats?
More than one project at a time?
A DIY hobby shop or commercial?

With that kind of space I could see smaller, devoted “cubicles” devoted to specific things with a large, empty work space for projects that are too big for the specialty space.

ahhh that would have helped wouldn't it.

Vehicle parking (including a 40' 5th and f350), general maintenance and servicing. No welding, no painting. Gathering place for "The Guys" as well.

So it is really just a big parking garage?
With a rig that size I would try for some kind of drive through ability.
I am guessing you don’t drive it every day, so put it along a wall.
The right hand wall if possible so you can get in and out of the truck easy.

Then think about another door for the daily drivers getting in and out.

I would put all my tools on casters and have one or two 2x4 roll around work tables before you start building work benches and such.
Give yourself a chance to “grow into it” before you do anything permanent.
You may be surprised at how creative you can be just sitting and looking at an empty room.

KBS - parking - yup that's pretty much it :)

Good idea on the roll arounds - can try them here and there until 'there works' is found :)

Unfortunately drive through isn't an option :(

here's mine.... not quite as big as you plan, 45x60. i park a 32' 5th wheel in there with a four post lift and a 14 enclosed hallmark trailer and still have plenty of room to move around in... the small shop is 28x43, that's where i do most hanging out at...

Is a 12' ceiling going to be high enough? Even if everything will fit, it's going to feel very confined in a space that big.

Go to grizzly.com then click on the shop planner icon. You can build your garage and fill it with what you are going to put in it to see how it fits before you start building. There is no trucks, or cars but you can change the different accesories to a size that matches what you have. Example, I used the kitchen island icon and made it the dimensions of my truck to see how it would fit. Good luck, it is pretty fun to play arround with.

The roof is a mansard profile, with the trusses being a mansard/scissor design spanning the 55' at 8' centers. That gives me a ceiling at 20' for the middle 15' of the building, so I don't think it will seem to confined. Looking at the drawings again though it does look a little 'roof heavy' in the elevation - so maybe adding 2' to the wall height wouldn't be a bad thing.

It's sitting in a 130mph wind zone so that has a big influence on the wall design. Designing those end walls for that wind load was interesting.

That's a neat idea 70ss - thanks !!

8' x 4' Roll around workbenches are great.
I have 4 of them.
One I use for dropping my Linc body onto when I am doing chassis work on it.
My shop is 80' x 40' with a mezzanine over part of it.

Doug, consider that 55 feet is non standard and may waste materiaks.
For example, I met a guy who decided to make a 15 by 20 porch and learned that he had to buy 16 foot materials and cut off and waste one foot of every board
