Large Williams slotted screwdriver set, why keep?

I bought a 6 piece phillips and slotted screwdriver set from Williams, the phillips are really nice. I think the slotted are HUGE. I can return them for a refund, any reason I should hold on to them? I don't really think I will ever have a need for such large slotted screwdrivers, one is almost 17" long. I paid $47.** and it will cost about $10 to ship back so I'll get most of that back.

Any thoughts?

These are some of the best classic hard handle screwdrivers out there! :) The set is the basic and the core of what would be in anyone's toolbox! :) Now.... USE of a large screwdriver.... you would be surprised; once again its one of those "when you have them you find a use for them!" situations! :) If you want... you might want to sell them here; I'm sure someone would buy them from you! :)

They are from the looks of it an industrial screwdriver, very large and wide. I was thinking they were long but skinny. As far as use goes, I'm not going to use a $8 screwdriver as a prybar...(plus it says do not use as prybar). I'll use a $1 screwdriver as a prybar. And what screws are slotted and need this big of screwdriver that a homeowner/DIY will ever come across? As far as selling goes, anyone can buy off ebay for $48 free shipping and get direct from Williams, no need to buy off here.

The Williams screwdrivers are great. Keep the large slotted drivers, as you will eventually find a use. Then, add a set of 4 stubies (2 slotted and 2 phillips), and you've got the makings of a solid 16-piece screwdriver set.

Last, I hope I don't need to tell you that women dig long drivers.

Never break up a set, you never know when it will be needed...you might want to change the drive belt on a Vdub some time.

I have a set of S-K standards that are really big and have wondered the same thing. I can't think of a single use outside of an emergency prybar.

I'm a general contractor and I agree that such screwdrivers are not called on very frequently any more, but you will appreciate that 17" screwdriver if you need to remove/change/install the tank on a toilet. Even the modern toilets still use a large flat tip & some of them don't give you much room to get your hand down in the tank...

I'll be using one tomorrow!

I just got the Phillips set myself. I was planning on buying the set you have later on, anything you're looking for? Perhaps we can do a partial trade/cash deal or something. I have no idea what I'm going to use the #4 Phillips for but it's a nice set.

To the OP; did your largest one in that set come as pictured, or is the shaft square instead of round, with no hex at the base, and has a ****** dull gray finish instead of chrome? Just curious, thanks.

the largest slotted driver in your set is more useful then you think.

one very noted project i can think of that required that driver was a dltx-71 or 72 carburetor to remove the float bowl pin. those end caps with slotted grip are so hard to get off. grabbing every mm of space on that fastener is crucial

Square...I prefer to call it an "industrial" finish...:)

So basically what you are saying is basically never...

mine came that way too when I ordered it, about a year ago. apparently the round shank super-huge drive is discontinued (that's what I was told, anyway) and the square shank is substituted in the set. the square shank lists for more $$$ than the old round.

I use my giganto slotted about twice a year. I'm probably into many more unique/obscure things than you are though.

I've used mine on some kids toys recently, and on a screw in the bed of my wheelbarrow. I think I used it on my gate last summer too. There aren't a ton of big slotted screws around anymore, but enough that it gets used.

Hate to interupt the thread but if williams can make awesome looking black handle screwdrivers like that how come Snap-on stopped making the black handle? Or are they making it again?

I bought these, along with the phillips set. The phillips set was NG (poorly ground tips) so I returned them, and then decided to return the slotted (even though they were nice) and switch over to Wiha. I guess I didn't read the description on these too carefully and was surprised on how big half of these things are! I have no need for such gigantic slotted drivers. The only slotted screws I encounter are around the house (light switches, etc) and none of the ones in this Williams set fit those anyway IIRC- you need "cabinet tip" types which, IIRC, you don't get in this set. The only need I can see for giant things like this are misusing for pry bars and I have pry bars.
