Larger sockets

I have all Craftsman sockets in 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" sizes. I am missing the larger sizes in all three drive sizes. Mainly in 3/8" and 1/2" I am missing the most. Anything over 22mm in both sizes and bigger sizes in deep well sockets both sae and metric. I have only 12pt. in deep 1/2" drive. 6pt. in the rest. Is there any larger sets to complete the missing sizes? I have often had to borrow deep sockets or 22mm+ to get as job done. The bigger sockets run well over $6 each. Any ideas?

If you don't have impacts, you could look at getting a 1/2" impact set that would be able to cover you 22mm+ sizes.

Or you can just buy what you need, and perhaps save some money???

What are your thoughts?

My thoughts.... Not sure. I roughly figured it up and what I want/ need would be around $230 for the larger sizes and the deep sockets I want. I just assumed somewhere would be a set of just the big sockets. I have bought a few sets for wrenches. Nothing for sockets.

If you don't care about things matching try dropping into a pawn shop or flea market. I managed to pick up some larger Craftsman sockets at a pawn shop for much cheaper than new from the store. Or ,as was said before, look on ebay.

I get most of my larger sockets from the pawn shop when they have them. I have also been buying a lot of tools from the classifieds here. If you haven't already, post a wanted ad here with what you are willing to pay. You'd be surprised how quickly it might get filled.

I think in 3/8 drive, craftsman only makes up to 22mm. I have SK and SO up to 24mm, but thats getting big for 3/8. 1" is tops for 3/8 as far as I have seen. As far as 1/2 drive, 27 is pretty big, 30, 32, 36 if your removing FWD axle nuts. 1 1/2 is the biggest in 1/2" normally.

+1 for an ad in the Wanted section. Let the sellers come to you. You would be amazed at what fellow GJ users can come up with. Worse you could do is place an ad an no one answers. No damage done and little time invested.

Sears does sell the larger 1/2" sizes in several sets, however they are pretty expensive. It was only just a bit more expensive for me to buy the 299 piece socket set for $300 than buy the larger 1/2" stuff alone.

I got up to 36mm and 1-1/2" with that set. Deeps only go up to 27mm and that was 12 point, I think 6 point deeps only go up to 21mm and 1-3/16".

Pipster is indeed correct, craftsman does funny things when the sockets get over a point and the switch to 12pt only it would seem.

I found most of my big stuff at carlisle over a few years for a few bucks each.

I dont understand why the larger sockets come in 12 pt. Isn't 6 pt. stronger??? I dont understand Craftsman sometimes. Does So or SK have more in the 6pt. range?
