A buddy of mine was at SEMA and picked one of these up.

For pulling cotter pins, alone, I'm considering buying one.

They're priced at $39.95.

Here's their link.

What do you think?

Price seems right, interesting concept, hope it works for you.

There is another company that makes a slide hammer that inserts in the adjusting bolt hole of vise grips.

Does seem to be a solution to a not so big of problem though.

looks quite bulky, a decent pair of side cutters or quality pliers and your good to go. seized or heavily rusted ones just drill out rather than piss around with something like this but im sure it could be useful in some aspects.

These are unbelievable handy, I use my homebuilt pair ALL THE TIME. Especially useful when you need to pull a nail without damaging the surface around it. I used mine most recently for pulling the long nails from eavestroughs (to replace them), worked beautifully. I highly recommend modifying vise grips to work with the adjuster bolt, it's a natural linear pull rather than the design shown by the OP.

Check out this video for a DIY solution. Pretty cool.

I'm sure that it has its' uses, however I haven't missed

yet trying to remove a cotter key with a pair of dikes.

(side cutting pliers). One thing that I have trouble

with is the fact that vice grips sometimes don't grip

all that well, and the round end of a cotter key isn't

much of a target to latch on to, especially when it is

half hidden inside the castellation of a nut, Then is

when I grab for my hose tool.

Just my humble two scents...

A lot of people seem to be negative on it but I think it would be a handy tool. Is it great for everything? No, but what is? You can also use it for pulling dowels. You are limited by the limits of the vice grip and could easily make one yourself but this way you save your own tool and the time and effort.

Made one after a glow plug in my F350 buggered up. The outer case seperated and left the center electrode. Quite common on the 7.3L diesels. Sure came in handy!

Me too, I just put a long *** bolt with a heavy chunk of steel with a hole in it, works like a charm on those broke off tips.

^^^ After seeing THAT picture I KNOW I need to buy this!! lol

Now hold on metalhead! She's got a mean look on her face that says "why am I using this @#$%* tool?!". I'll be that vise grip broke loose and the teeth chewed up those bolts she was pulling. :lol_hitti

Mine was a real PIA, must have worked on it for 3-4 days. Tried Seafoam, throttle body cleaner, Evinrude carbon buster, nothing worked. Finally tried brake cleaner, waited 15 minutes, and it was out. That thing was in there!

I used it today!
I pressed a plastic piece into an aluminum frame upside down.. Twice!
I have the tool for that! Popped them right out!

I weld nuts to the top side of my old vise grips that accept my slide puller.

NOTE: have the slide puller plane with the jaws center, not the handle.

It primary purpose it to pull welded on studs for dent pulling. The fact that it does other things is nice but that's specifically what it's designed to do.

I've seen several variations of these most have the slide hammer just threaded into the adjusting nut of the vice grip...and yes all of them have been for body work that I've seen. Vicegrips are terrible (in my experience) for trying to remove cotter pins.

i made mine similar to KP's one he showed in the video... actually eerily similar lol, used the same technique, threaded rod to the back of a normal vice grip. slide hammer on the rod, and you clamp it down by tightening the threaded rod. not too bad either.

i don't use mine for bodywork, there are a few applications where you need to pull pins out of things at work for me, these pins are driven into blind holes, alignment pins. and are supposed to be threaded inside so you can attach a puller.. but guess how many times somebody doesn't put the threaded pins in the blind holes? a lot, you guessed it.... so this tool comes in handy for all kinds of things.
