I have several pairs of snap on pliers where their brand is no longer visible due to crappy laser etching.

Your point is pointless.

You and whiffy are the only ones in this thread that seem to actually like laser etching. The rest of the world (except manufacturers) hates it. My point is only worthless to you whiffy. Enjoy you laser etched tools...

I've never seen anyone complain about it in person. It's only on here that people complain about it. But then again people will bitxh about anything on here.

Who the hell cares about laser etching on pliers? Do you not know what pliers you own? I've never had a warranty issue. No one else makes pliers like snapon for the most part.

In the scheme of things it's trivial. It doesn't matter. Alot of people have never had issue with etching vs a few people concerned about resale in 20 years?

The only issue I have seen with laser etching was on craftsman sockets, exspecially for the time they removed the hard stamping. Yes those sucked and faded quickly. Once you get past crappy $2 sockets, zaser etching works just fine. This is the type of conversation you can only have on the internet.

I just wish the Snap on logo was engraved somewhere for warranty reason. That's the first thing that came to mind when I got a SO crows foot recently.

Quality of laser systems vary. This affects depth, wear-resistance and longevity.

Snap-on uses Control Laser Corporation (CLC) for some of their applications.

Laser engaving Instinct handles:

While it has advantages, I dis-like engraving on hardline tools, for many of the reasons mentioned.

Another issue I foresee with stamped markings vs. laser markings, is the high availability of machines and potential for counterfeiting.

The quality of the SO etching is pretty good, the only issue I have ever seen would be on the pliers, but it's not near as defined out the door as the crow feet. Then again... I'm talking about normal use, I can see where some members could have issues after hours and hours of weekly hand polishing, your bound to rub some etching off.

I saw what you did there...:lol_hitti

I think the laser etching looks more modern, the stamping more classic. I generally prefer classic to modern. I don't sell tools. I don't buy used tools. I can tell the difference in my hand between a genuine quality tool and a cheap imposter.

All told, it doesn't make much difference to me.

I just got off the phone with snap on and they are planning on eliminating roll stamping on all of their tools for laser etching :shocking:

Wont be long before we're getting made in china snap on hardline tools......

I have two sets of Snap-on crowfoot wrenches, flare nut and open end. Both sets are laser etched.

Amazingly both sets work as they should, with no adverse side effects from the etching.

You lot make it sound like the world is going to fall apart without Snap-on crowfoot wrenches having stamped part numbers. Get over it.

Laser etching allows distributors to very easily brand commodity grade trash.

The reason people pay what we do for snap-on is because we understand that they've made the investment in tooling and workmanship, which makes the tool understandably better.

I use my tools outside, inside, on boats, etc...my impact socks regularly get rust on them, and I hit them with scotch brite occasionally to clean them up so I can read the sizes. Etching will disappear under these conditions. It also looks cheap. Nothing I buy off the snap on truck should look cheap.

I can see a day when the customer will be offered the "premium upgrade stamped" option...at a little extra cost.

You now how outrageous that sounds!?:willy_nil
but realistic.....at the same time.
