I cant remember who posted this here before, but laser guided parking just saved me some shop space. Last winter, I had to put my car in the detached garage and avoid any winter projects. I just bought a motion sensor activated laser parking guide at Menards. Now I can tuck the car between the pontoons on my boat in my attached garage, leaving about 2" between everything. I just pull the car in until the laser beam hits the "T" in the radio antenna in the windshield.

I was able to mount the unit about 2' toward the front of the garage from my garage door opener outlet, and plug it in there. I pulled the car in where I wanted it and adjusted the laser beam until it hit a definite spot on my windshield. Now when I pull in, the motion sensor turns on the laser beam and I can see a red dot move up my hood and windshield as I pull in. It cost $20. Here's the instructions:

Where did you buy this device?

I use the old tennis ball on a string thing. Works just as good if you don't mind a tennis ball hanging in your garage when the car is not in there.

LN would be happy to test it. I guarantee she can defeat the system. Of course she will need to test it with your vehicle.

Just have your kid stand in between the wall and the car when your wife is parking it. If she hits the kid, the impact will be absorbed by their body so no damage to the van and I guarantee she will only do it once!

The old tennis ball on a string trick only works if you don't have kids into playing baseball. When we were kids, one of my brothers used my dad's for batting practice...once. Ball bounced off of the ceiling and everything else. Dad was not happy. Brother ended up having trouble sitting down for a while.

I may have been ok with the tennis ball, but this is my wife's garage - so the tennis ball would be a little tacky. Plus I have to park within two inches left to right as well as front to back in order to miss the boat and clear the garage door. So I need to see the laser beam hit the center of my hood and move up the center until it intersects the antenna in the windshield as I pull in the garage. I probably would have launched the boat into the dining room if I tried the tennis ball.

I have the tennis ball hit the windshield sprayer. I's a little plastic bump on the hood. When I hit it with the ball, I know I'm lined up left and right and front to back. I just built a new house/ garage with the parking stalls 5' deeper then the old garge. No more tennis balls!! Lots more room.
