Laser Level for Home Use?

Hey guys,

I am interested in maybe picking up a laser level for home use (hanging photos, etc). I prefer to spend the money on something of decent quality, but some of these things run several hundred dollars which seems way overkill for home usage.

Maybe these are not all that useful for home use?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I have a Craftsman that I bought long ago. Do yourself a favor and get a self-leveling one.
Well worth it. I did not < frown >.

You should do well for under $100. Check Amazon for Bosch.

I like my Bosch, do yourself another favor and be sure to get a "cross LINES" and not dots. Dots flip'n worthless.

Someone on here said that the new line of Dewalt are better bang for the buck compared to the Bosch.... they backed it up with some good info too. I cant remember exactly what it was.

I bought the B&D Bullseye a few years ago. https://m.acehardware.com/product/i...MIntmU_sGe1gIVBjJpCh29YwmnEAQYAyABEgLnBPD_BwE

It's been great, no complaints.

+1 for the Bullseye.
Have had mine for almost 10 years. The stud finder finally crapped out a few months ago but the level works like a champ. Stays in my garage most of the time and has held up well to Texas Gulf Coast heat and humidity.

I am looking to upgrade to something that sits on a tripod though. Been impressed with the Bosch line.

When I researched a couple years ago, it came down to Bosch and Johnson. I bought this Johnson - if you get it during a 30% off sale, it's only $200. It's been really handy for building shelving, I hung 5 garage doors, even have set toe on a couple cars with it.

When it comes to laser levels theirs a reason you see pls on every job site out there. Pay once cry once.

Hanging photos and building houses every day are very different things. While PLS is a great laser, it starts around $500... not really your DIY laser.

The DIY laser product line has really upped the ante in the last few years and you can now get what was considered top of the line stuff 10yrs ago for $100-200.

Dots go much further than lines.
I recently picked up an NWI 5 way dot thats great, and a cross line with the horizontal slightly askew for way less than the GCL-5 Id have got as a lotto winner.

Hanging photos is actually something that most of the high dollar lasers are not very good at. For my money I went with something almost specifically designed for it. The Ryobi air gripper. Some people love it, others hate it but it works great for me!

Thanks for the thread bump. I was just thinking about my next project, and how a laser-level would really help.

Great timing!

I have one of these and it does the job for me, however seldom I happen to use it. Come to think of it, I forget where the hell I stored the thing but it's somewhere in my house.

I have a disto, point laser and line laser, all of which come in super handy for different applications at work.

For me at home, however, it would take a lot of pictures and curtains that need hanging to justify a laser over just standard levels and a tape measure. If you're talking real home improvement projects, however, the scales start to tip in their favor.

I can see the appeal, though. Any excuse for a new cool tool, especially when lasers are involved.

I picked one of these up on a whim, years ago, on clearance at the BORG for $10. It is simply awesome. Also great for laying out tape for wall graphics.
