This is a great little multipurpose level at a decent price. Dewalt DW088 https://www.homedepot.ca/en/home/p.dewalt-dw088k-cross-line-laser.1000788829.html

I still use a 4' bubble level...sometimes level just shows what a crappy job the builder did. Especially for cabinets and their doors.

I measure up and down the wall for cabinets and pick the spot that best carries your eyes away from the flaws or un-levelness one has to deal with.

I have a Johnson 40-6625. I like it. Self leveling, nice bright beams, has a magnetic mounting bracket and a threaded hole for a tripod shoe. It chirps and blinks when it can't self level. Costs maybe $175? I use it for laying out pipework and measuring for large weldments on a job site.

If I had to replace it I would look at the DeWalt listed above. My buddy who has a pipefitting company uses them for his crew. Good value, does everything the Johnson does, as well as the ability to turn on each beam independently. I seldom need both simultaneously and this will save battery.

Avoid the $50 Bosch from the big box store. I got one thinking it would be handy at home. Not nearly as nice as the Johnson or DeWalt. The self leveling is ****, no magnetic mounts and the supplied mounting arm is a joke. You get what you pay for...

i just picked up this one from Johnson Level and Tool:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0038227QM/?tag=atomicindus08-20

it is at a nearly all-time low price and the reviews are good.

So far, it seems nice. the tripod is very basic, but it is also pretty lightweight. The case is half decent.

Overall, for $63, i think you could do a hell of a lot worse.

This is the one I got... use it often... self leveling... locking feature... very bright.

Edit... I fabricated a mount so I could attach the level to my 3rd hand pole... giving me a full 10 feet of height... and anywhere in between

I looked at this one. Fit the need. And I have a lot of DeWalt...

$63 for a laser level with a tripod!?!? Can't get hurt, that's for sure.

I have traditionally hung cabinets with 2, 4 and 6 foot levels. I was looking for something a bit more interesting. And my wife concurred on the purchase of an additional tool with this project... So...

I did look at the $50 Bosch. Probably would have done the job that I was looking to complete. But, as always, kept thinking "what if I do X later..."

What is your budget? The best all around laser is the bosch gll3-80. It will do almost anything you want with it's 3 planes. Looks like a great price at HD also when I just searched for it, http://www.homedepot.com/p/Bosch-26...gclsrc=aw.ds&dclid=CMOm1b6OydUCFQS5Twod-28Puw

Budget isn't here. Although, it is a REALLY NICE level. Has me thinking about returning what I procured... which is -

Two planes, not three. Maybe I should spring for the third plane... Going to set the cabinets tomorrow. Looking forward to using...

Also got a new miter saw...

care you share what you made for your third hand? Is it the 3rd Hand HD?

I have been thinking about a couple 3rd hands for a bit and this might be enough to get me to pull the trigger.

To me that is a no brainer for 100 bucks more. The 3 planes are so much more useful. With the 2 plane one you got you can't even layout two walls at a 90 degree angle. Which things like that is mostly what I use my laser for besides setting level heights. Also yours says 65 foot range where the gll3-80 is 265 foot range.

I know you said this is too much but I'll second the opinion that it's a great level. I like the new dewalt 3 plane green laser even better. I've used both in cabinetry and fully paneled rooms and the green really helps visibility at a distance.

This is what I have and use and it is well worth the money. I would highly recommend it as you buy once and you're set.

You guys are killing me! haha

The original plan was no laser level at all. Then got the wife on board. She cringed at the cost of the two plane... So the original incremental cost was $225... Got 10% off list. Now I've got to go back for another 100 bucks... But... Get the tool for the job and do it once is always good advice.

BTW, the tool worked wonders on leveling cabinets and lining up for studs. Fantastic. So much so, that I was able to even get a positive response from my wife!
