OK, I don't think I've ever asked this sort of question before:

Who makes a decent laser tach that is NOT made in (red) china, and doesn't break the bank? :dunno:

Google isn't a lot of help, nor is Amazon... :pimpflash

At what point do you consider the bank to be broken? Extech makes some nice ones in a variety of price ranges but IIRC they are all off shore made.

Don't know yet. I've seen them from 10-12 bucks to $everal hundred, and absolutely no clue who the COO, is. I DO know I've see a number of "different" brands that are clearly the same mfg and re-branded... You can bet that at several hundred, the bank is broken...

And off shore is not my issue. Chicom is...

If you can let go of the COO hangup you could get a decent unit for ~$100. Call extech and see where there mid range units are made. They are one of the big names in tachs. Otherwise mitytoyo, Fluke, Amprobe and most multimeter companies make a good unit, I just don't think many make a USA one. Electronic measuring equipment is one thing, especially from extech that COO doesn't bother me too much on.

For the third time, My only COO "hangup" is Red China, you know, mainland China? The one with over a billion people living there...

Imported is not an issue, unless it is RED CHINA... OK?

Taiwan, Japan, Europe, North or South america, you know, places that are relatively free countries?

If anyone has one that is NOT made in RED CHINA and are happy with it, please tell me about it. I haven't seen a single COO listed in the ads, most of these are clearly re-branded by many companies, but never is a COO listed. Based on the excessive re-branding I suspect most I have seen are not one I will buy...

OUTLAW I understand that, and what I am telling you is China made units are used everyday to do far more important things than you will ever be thinking about in your little garage. Where was your computer made that you are typing on? You don't want to spend $100's yet you won't let go of COO. Did you even call Extech? I have one and am very happy with it, there are a few at work that get calibrated on a regular basis, and OMG they are made in China. Almost all of those <$40 units are rebagged china units from someone else, usually extech. You are going to need to call the companies to get a for sure COO, have you done that?

ZK - The "importance of my work" is irrelevant to my question or the limits I chose to put on who I do business with. Also please stop with the "Where was your computer made" ****. I've stated repeatedly in more than a few threads: I don't do any business I can avoid doing with red china. I refuse to give in to the popular "It doesn't matter" Mantra. It DOES matter to me. and Yes I make EVERY effort to not buy from them unless there is NO CHOICE.

The chi com government is waging economic war on the US on the backs of their own people. As the largest most successful de-facto slave state, they have not earned my $$ due to laziness on my part. (China has the worst record for human rights of any country in the world except 4 that are on the US (and many other countries) "do not do business with at all" list.

I'm asking here because a lot of guys have these in their hands, and can easily look on the back and see the COO. If I can't get one identified here THEN I'll do there heavy lifting of sifting though the literally HUNDREDS of possibilities.

Everyone else seems to be able to ask a simple question like that without being told to "call the company". Why not me? Do I not participate enough offering solutions to others to have earned that privilege? Or are you just trolling me? Don't go there...

Thanks for telling me your Exotech unit is MADE in CHINA. It's off my list.

If you can't or won't contribute further to the question within the limits I've defined, please just don't respond. I'm not interested in arguing my position; it's not subject to your criticisms or recommendations that I hang my principals up and cave.

The Grainger link I posted above is a good unit but might be more than you want to spend. They have a series of laser tachs, their simplest is the PT99 ($150) both made in the USA.

While Grainger says Country of Origin subject to change, the PTL 200 I just bought at work is labeled Made In USA. I share your disdain for China!
