Hello everyone,

I have a few windows that I'd like to put some detection on. The purpose isn't so it's wired to an alarm system that calls someone (ADT, etc), it's so I'm aware of when someone has crossed a threshold.

Having window sensors (when you open the window) doesn't necessarily help, since the windows are large and you can easily come in without needing to slide the frame.

Having glass break sensors may not work either as the sensitivity may not work correctly as intended. Same goes with motion detectors that go off unexpectedly (and don't at all).

So have any of you ever used some type of laser trip wire type setup? This works great of course until a spider walks in front of your transmitter :)

Looking for ideas,

Looking for ideas,
Most serious alarm systems quit using actual laser sensors for alarm systems because they are easily defeated. The only reason i know that is from a mythbusters episode. Sorry i dont know episode/season but its about heists or breaking into buildings or something.

I think they more commonly use infared or something like that. Sorry i can't help more than that.

Well yes, laser or infrared, etc. Looking for ideas on how to notify if someone has come through a window.

Motion sensor for the room and window.

No way to defeat those. It's inside the building....

If the walk up to the window...and you have it sensitive enough, you get an early warning before they break anything.

And if you're smart...you use a security camera....you can program them for motion detect.

Not only does it warn you...but gives you video of the event....and you can watch it on your cell phone while you direct the cops in.

You could get a driveway alarm that would alert you to anyone approaching your home and then log onto your surveillance system to see what they're up to.
