Here's an interesting ratchet from the last days of Duro Metal Products.
It's a model 6472 but it's got 2 patent numbers
4277990 and 3208318.
The first is for simplified construction. The pawl and shift are one piece and there's no cover plate. The gear and pawl are
held in place by a circlip.
The 2nd is the famous Roberts quick release found on Craftsman ratchets.
Funny thing though this ratchet has what appears to be a conventional gear.
But when you look close you can see there's a separate piece on top. The piece doesn't move as though it's broken, however there is still spring pressure on the detent ball and it holds a socket fine.
I think it was originally made as a quick release but converted back for some reason..
The ratchet also says Patent pending but I haven't been able to find what it was...
